There is a V-Ray Object Properties node under V-ray menu in object context.
This seems like a much more convenient and “houdinic” way to set object properties, except that it does not seem to do anything. It’s also not present in the documentation.
Anything that I’m missing here?
It works only for packed primitives (there is a warning printed if assigned to non-packed).
It it still doesn’t work, please, share a .hip file.

Warning is printed into the console log; we’ll try to make it more visible.
