Ocean simulation - unwanted waves from grid

Hello,

I am working on an ocean simulation of a sailing yacht. Test render below, the yacht model is not complete

I have the problem of small ripples coming back from the grid box. The scene is simple enough, the grid moves along the Y axis only, tracking with the boat. The grid is quite big, and I’ve been increasing the distance in front of the boat to try and fix this problem, and using lots of frames in case it was just the sim settling down at the start. This render is frame 400.

I have a particle volume controlling the creation of splashes and foam around the boat.

Can anyone advise how I can remove these unwanted waves?

I did run a sim with the grid box moved right up to the bow, which works great, except the interaction with the ocean mesh is not good. As ocean waves approach the bow the movement is not ideal - so clearly the best route is a box moved in front of the bow enough to get the interaction working - but how to remove the unwanted waves?

Any thoughts or ideas very welcome,

Thanks,

Giles

Hi,

This is a known issue when using animated simulator and we didn’t find a way to fix it unfortunately. So far you may try using more Smoothing grid, or extend the simulator at the front side.
