OCIO ACES in Chaos Player not working despite following documentation

using Ubuntu 24.04

Right is Choas player with messed up color space, left is SideFx Houdini Mplay with properly setup OCIO ACES. these are rendered EXR files. You can see the difference, right?

I have followed the steps of Chaos player documentation.

I have tried a lot of things:

  • followed steps in Installing your ACES via an OCIO environment variable on Linux - Articles & Guides - Community - ACESCentral to create an environment variable for ocio aces in ubuntu. but when I click on “apply default ocio configuration” nothing happens, choas player documentation claims a dialogue box should appear, nothing appears.
  • I have tried importing an ocio config file, nothing changes.
  • I have tried downgrading the ocio config file from the latest ocio profile 2.5 to earlier 2.4, doesn’t work either.
  • I have tried using the cg version instead of the studio version of the ocio config file, it doesn’t work.
  • Basically nothing works

Could you please let me know how to get the ocio aces to work properly in chaos player?

It isn’t showing there is an OCIO config applied in your screenshot

I normally just right click the look up table bit and choose “import” choose my OCIO config and select it.

An OCIO dialog appears for you to choose input/output

fyi, I can’t import either a 2.5 or 2.4 OCIO configs.

2.1 or lower profiles work.

Chaos player is in EOL and hasn’t been updated for a while, so it probably doesn’t support some of the newer implementations, but doesn’t tell you that.
