Odd Glass problem

Hi All,

never had this before, and im sure im missing something obvious but what??

Problem is this…

cannot get light though a simple box/glass shape.

see left and right of image…

What if you check the “Affect shadows” option for the glass?

Best regards,
Vlado

no change :frowning:

what happens if you set your diffuse to white?

no change..

I even rebuild the window glass with a new object, and the problems still there

ok…i think it might be a scale problem or somthing…see attached…

once I move the window outside of the wall eveything seems to work ok..any ideas?

In the V-Ray indirect illumination settings, do you have “Refractive GI caustics” on?

Best regards,
Vlado

it was off, but I turned it on…made no difference.

heres a quicktime to better illustrate the problem

Well, I’m all out of ideas then; if you wish you can send me just that part of your scene to vlado@chaosgroup.com and I will be able to tell you more about why this happens.

Best regards,
Vlado

woot…figured it out..

It was todo with the vray sun, I deleted it and put a new one in the scene and it all working now!

Very strange though

nope…forget that last post…ill email over the scene to you vlado

Just to clarify you need both refractive GI caustics AND affect shadow on for it to work.

You may have missed the right combo for it to work.

i fixed it, not sure what the problem was…im sure it was all my own doing though, clicking this, clicking that.

Anyway, I merged it into a new scene, and copyed a few settings and it seems to be working now

be good if you can figure out what fixed it. i’ve got the same issue now…

oh…

All i did was to merge it into an older scene that was aready setup and working…then made sure my windows had the same settings (object/vray properties ) and bobs youre uncle it all worked.

But i dont really know if the problem was the object properties or the render settings…sorry

we’re you using lightcache or Brute Force as secondary bounce? i’m noticing a much larger difference in lighting than previous releases, not sure if that is a cause?

(Edit: nope, that’s not the cause. but is it interesting tho.)

LC for secondary

Ive always had this, I just thought it was because vrays GI has a harder time getting through objects, no matter how transparent.

Right click your glass object, go to vrayproperties and uncheck ‘visible to GI’

I’ve had the same problem, Affect shadows is on, as is Refractive GI Caustics etc, light portal just outside the window, and no light coming in. Very odd…
Is this a bug in SP1?

I’ll try merging into new scene.

OOOPS… I’d hidden the wrong glass object in the Material Overide Exclude. Please ignore me.

kyle, what are you like!
