old dongle setup - can I change it?

Hi there,

I have had a standalone dongle vray license and some render node license for some years now.
Is there a way, to use the online license server instead, so I can finally stop using the dongle?

We will release a new build of the license server that will allow transferring licenses from dongle to online. I hope it’ll be available until the end of the year, we’ll announce it when ready.

Was looking for te same thing. So is it correct that when I am now using a dongle I am not able to use online licensing system at all? Configuring a new workstation now and would like to set it up so I can use it without a dongle. (or use vray with dongle on workstation 1 and wihtou dongle on workstation 2 - as 1 user so not simultaneously).

If your license is on a hardware dongle - it can be obtained only from it, not via Internet from our central license server (that’s what Online licensing does.).

If the computers you use are in the same network - you can have the dongle plugged in and V-Ray license server and the dongle drivers installed one machine. After that - point all other computers with V-Ray to obtain licenses over the local network from the computer with V-Ray license server installed - Chaos Docs

Thanks Ivan. No the computers are not in the same network, they are in 2 different locations. For now I just carry the dongle around all the time, but it’s just a matter of time before that goes wrong and I loose it, or forget to bring it and need to drive back to get it etc… So transferring the dongle license to an online license would be great.
