I hope this is good enough .. still WIP… any comments???

This is the before..:
…and after…
well i agree with the reason for the change, the image needs better integration with the background, but those flowers and tree isn’t doing it for ya. I think it would be better to have 3d components that get good shading, lighting and shadows from your scene.

Do you think I should put flowers??? Or a tree or just both???
I would lose them both in their current state. The trees dont match with the background trees with regards to the lighting. And they really LOOK comped in. You cant see where the trees grow out of the ground. Same with the flowers. You cant see them grow out of the ground, so they kinda look fake. I can see that there is water in the background, but its kind of hard to tell which kind of confuses the image. I like the building, and dont have much to crit about it. If it were my 3d scene I would probably create a wider shot, get rid of the background and use something more fitting to this old, rusty, decrepit building like a desert setting or something.

Here is a suggestion - clearly the trees on the left and right as well as the flowers don’t match with the rest - why don’t you decrease a bit the lighting so the barrack (is it a barrack?
) is better fit with the background which is perfect and make a bit higher grass in the near side of the road which looks a bit darker too … this may work better.
As for the barrack itself - where the h**l is the entrance … hehe?
Tisho
okay I guess I forgot that this is a fishing club building, so maybe it needs the background…hehe
percy
I actually hated that backgound anyways… ![]()
Percy: I know exactly what you mean.. and I will try finding some nice backgrounds that go with the theme.. I might be able to find some kind of a southern/desert background that has some lake…or something(so that at least it goes with the boat) the only problem is that Im having trouble finding the right image… if you come across any nice high resolution backgound images please tell me…
Tisho: I think before I change the whole scene it might be best that I do some tests on the lighting.. I will post them as I go along… the image is a bit too small to see precisely where the door is.. (next time Ill post a bigger one) the door is actually the rusty thing in the middle that has the handle on it… its kind of half open…
Yeah, some light tests might be good … you know, now when I see this in perspective - what is doing an old fishing club in the middle of the road? hehe It reminds me of those abandoned small buildings on the highways in my country.
If you change the background to a desertish one - then so much with the fishing theme … 8) anyways … the thing next to the door on the left is an open space, right? and one can see the highlight on the opposite wall? … if not, damn, I knew I need glasses … hehe
A decrepit building (run-down) needs a decrepit setting. Like, it should be on a pier that looks like it isn’t wise to walk on. If you can model the building this well, you should have no trouble doing a pier for it.
Check out some of Chris Pember’s work:
http://www.3dluvr.com/gunnah/html/images/images.htm
That should give you some ideas how to make your building and setting more harmonious.
Geez Fran,
After seeing these images .. my inner voice.. says: “Leo … why dont you just give up.. no way this scene can be done”… :?
But I guess Im as stubborn as a mule… and no giving up… yet…
Still will be working on it… ![]()
Leo
Hi Leo,
It’s a little known secret that the stubborn usually prevail. 8)
ya after looking at gunnah’s images, maybe it WOULD be best to model the background. I dont have much in the way of good quality background images.
percy
looking pretty good. some of the textures are a little blurry.
Which ones?? (I hope not all :? )
Is there a way of improving them .. without changing the bitmap texture…?? some way .. maybe in material editor..
the wood texture is very repetitive and the float need a better modeling looks very sharp i like the compotiton of it u gotta do it on a swamp !!!
Thanks Zuliban …
Here I am so far… Any comments for now???
Fran: I tried making the dock
Zuliban: I did make the edges a notch more curved than it was before..
do you still think that they look sharp..
I also can go to a really round edge look…
Percy: I tried making the textures a bit more sharper..
but doesnt seem to be working in the way I wanted it to be ..
maybe I should take this shot in Black and White…
Im sure it would hide all the problems… ![]()
Hi Leo,
Looking good! For the bitmap situation, try looking at this thread:

Fran: Thank you so much .. the thing that I dont understand is that I just cant believe
I never realised this feature for all these years Ive been using 3dsmax… unbelievable.. it meant alot to me..
Anyways… here I am so far… still WIP… :?
this is another version.. with ropes and no light under dock.. which one is better ?? you decide…
i like more the 2nd but… the wire u have there need more dynamism it looks like a rendereable spline and the boat its sharp, the wood that is touching the water should be dirty from that part because the house it suppoused to be old so the wood have many years there it need to be more dark in the part where the water is touching and the enviroment seems like is clamped at a gray color…
