Open Last folder

I know it was here that I read a solution, but I can’t find it. I want my Windows Explorer to open in the last used folder and not my documents and settings folder.

Do you mean when browsing through max? If so, I also am dying to know this! Maybe it’s just configure system/user paths in max preferences?

I mean Windows, but it would also be swift for MAX.

There use to be a utility called DlgXrsizer 4.6.1 (i.e. Dialog eXerSizer) that would do this and much more. I think it’s gone now, but the name might help you find a similar utility.

Could it be “Restore previous folder windows at logon”?
Doesn’t sound like it though…

In Max (2008 ) you could use “Project folders”. That way it’ll always open the right folder in the project you’re working on. But I’m pretty sure you already knew that.

Doesnt that also create 10 useless folders in the directory though?

Navigating through folders annoys me far more than it probably should, it seems like I spend most of my time doing it.

Not sure if this will do exactly what you are looking for but I have found it extremely useful for browsing though folders. It allows you to pin your folders so you can browse to them right away without having to go through your whole hierarchy to get to it. It also shows you the list of most recently accessed folders/files which is pretty useful. It costs $20 but is highly worth it in my books.

Yeah it does, but you can also define that Customize > Configure User Paths.
Set the folders you don’t want to use to C:\Documents and Settings\<name>\3dsmax and leave the ones you do want to use to default ( .\renderoutput for example)

That way, when setting a project folder, it’ll only create the folders defined with .\
(It may take some time before you get everything right)

Or, in case you don’t want to use Project Folders, you can always set you User Paths to point to a location where you store your projects (network folder for example)
