Exactly—it’s the same with Archicad, which also syncs with Enscape. In Archicad, we have three render engines: basic, accelerated hardware, and Cineware Redshift Maxon. Most people using Enscape in Archicad stick with the basic engine because all three are pretty limited, and Enscape handles everything faster and better. PBR only works in Cineware Redshift, so we edit materials at the Enscape library Editor but create them in Archicad using the basic engine, which does the job just fine. That means the translation happens on Enscape’s side. In Archicad, we just need an albedo texture for the surface and a hatch for 2D technical drawings.
So, Enscape and Archicad are forcing synchronization, which slows things down and makes it tough to use Archicad with complex templates full of materials. Even a blank Archicad file takes a minute just to open the material editor—no geometry, just material settings and PBR texture links.
Turning off sync might help a little, but it doesn’t feel like the best fix. Moving textures out of the file and using links seems like the way to go. Like I mentioned, in Enscape we only need exactly what’s in the model—nothing more, nothing less. A curated library from Chaos, whether in Cosmos or separate, would really smooth out our workflow.
Cheers!
