Ornatrix & Vray & CAT test

It’s not much, but here’s a cluster of plugin’s test..lol. Please don’t bite my head off for not putting a pre-loader in this flash animation…I’m just learning flash and haven’t figure out how to do that yet. So be patient while it loads the frames. Once they are loaded it will walk smoothly.

hehehe…I really like the hair movement…pretty cool..

as for flash:

here are some pretty good tutes for coding preloaders in flash

paul.

It looks good except for that dark border around the top of the hair. IS this from the Alpha or was it in the original render? Maybe a rim/ side hair light would help.

--Jon

I’m pretty sure that’s from the alpha. I rendered it with a black environment (bad mistake i know but hey, it was only a test).

I love the hair movement is great! How does it react to more violent movements? Would love to see more tests from you

Hmmmm, sounds fun! I’ll make a more violent version tonight to see what happens.

Looking forward to it

awesome stuff…cant wait for the next one

Here’s an updated version (still learning the preloader bit…sorry). I’ll continue to add hair to this beast and see what happens.

Jeff

very nice!!

That’s great! Must find some time to try Ornatrix! I need to renders some short clumps of fur on a character next week, this looks like it will be perfect. How stable is it at the moment?

I have Shag:Hair, but any chance to play with new toys is always welcome

It’s actually pretty stable for me right now. I Had some problems in the beginning with dual processor support (I think). But now, it’s really coming along nicely (hat’s off to Marcel for his hard work).

Has the dual stability been fixed only in the max6 build? I’m on a dual, but still using max5 here.

Have you testet the OrnaGeo feature with VRay?

Yes, the dual CPU issues I had seem to have been fixed a couple of builds back(I’m running a dual xeon system myself). I just downloaded the new update tonight and haven’t had time to test the OrnaGeo feature yet…but it does look very promising.

Jeff

Looks like it works great for a head of hair, but I was trying to put fur on a zebra I am working on and I kept running out of memory

True, I myself haven’t tried ornatrix on large surfaces yet.

a: i dont think the dual processor problem was fixed for max5 and b: for some reason when i calculate the dynamics and render a still it looks nice. but when i render an anim i loose the dynamics

mmm looks cool jeff, what were the render times like?
were they practical

mmmm … great work but i cant get it to work on my pc … ive disabled multythreading, but it just crashes at render time ??

In the first example (the slow one), I forgot and left HDRI lighting on (my mistake), so render time was about 14 mintues total for 51 frames of animation.

In the second faster example, I turned off HDRI lighting and it only took 8 minutes for 51 frames of animation.

system specs:
Dual Xeon 3.2 (1mb cache)
2GB DDR Ram
QuadroFX1100
3dsmax6

Natty - You’ve downloaded the latest build and it’s still crashing when you render? If you post the problem on the ornatrix forum I’m sure Marsel will try to help resolve the issue.

I’m sure it’s one heck of a task to work all the bugs out of a new plugin. I know I wouldn’t want that job!
