I was so excited this morning when I woke up… I found out that “I, Robot” is nominated for the Oscars… Before you start asking, no, Vray was not used on “I, Robot” But I spent the good part of a year on the project as one of the lead lighters and I am very proud. I just need to share my excitement with your guys…
The other two are “Spiderman 2” and “Harry Potter 3”
Congrats Man! Still have to see that one.
Also congrats to the guys over at Blur for their nomination of Gopher Broke!
Congrats man, tell us more about it, what softwares were involved and what was your participation in details. When i go watch the movie i want to know where you did put the spots and the directs…
Let us know all
Mark
Congratulations Chris :!:

There were several houses involved in the project. Digital Domain was the largest (the one I work for) with approx 500, Weta was a close second with I think around 400 shots. Rainmaker did the house distruction sequence which was maybe 50 shots (really not sure how many).
As far as what we used, it was a lot of our own tools. Basically Maya on steroids, Renderman with very custom shaders, and Nuke (our own very powerful compositing software). We also used Lightwave on stuff too.
I was one of 5 lighting sequence leads. The sequences that I was involved in was anything inside the Police headquaters but not including the holding cell, part of Granny’s apartment, part of Calvin condo, and anything in Robinson’s Office (my personal favorite)… The wink shot was my personal favorite.
Those of you in Region 2, I recommend seeing the 2 disc DVD which has some great how-to’s and even a gag reel (from what I hear since I’m in region 1).
Thanks Eric! Congrats to you as well Cpnichols! I-Robot looked amazing.
Hey Tim, Did you get to work on either In the Rough or Gopher Broke? What did you get to do if so?
I haven’t seen Gopher Broke yet but what I saw of In the Rough the animation (among other areas) was superb :!:
Also, great job on the Disney christmas video. I think you guys set a great standard for Disney.

Congrate to you Tim… glad to see another Vray user nominated… but also another local Venice dude nominated… If you don’t have a party to go to… Meet us at the firehouse tonight! Pretty sure that is where we are going.
I worked on In the Rough. I modeled/textured the main cave environment and did lighting & compositing on 16 or so other shots.
The Disney video was a lot of fun to work on as well. Thanks
Congratulations to all nominated!
