Running various iterations of a sim, send to render farm, save up a version and sim with new settings and would love it if I could specify another sim folder location for versioning up sims.
Maybe something like: //UNC_Directory/Cache_Files/$(scene_name)/$(scene_name)_
Has this question already been asked?
So I see that an environmental variable can be setup, which helps if I want to manually specify a folder… but then I am in the position of creating several environmental variables for several shots. Does anyone else have a workflow established that checks a root directory for a folder named “cache” and saves the cache files there?
Hey,
Indeed env vars seem like a viable way to approach this.
Maybe what needs to be done in order for you to be able to do this right would be:
- Having a simulator parameter for the version. In scenes with several simulators, maybe you would want to version up only some of the simulators.
- Then it would help allowing the simulator path to contain this version, via an $(…) macro in the Phoenix path.
Does this sound like what you are looking for?
Yes, that does sound along the lines of use I am thinking of. Some way to check scene filename, which is versioned: scene_v001.max and the sim object name, Simulator_001, would save a cache in specified directory: scene_v001_sim_001.aur , scene_v002_sim_001.aur, etc.
Not sure about others, I tend to get a rough sim working, version up and send to another machine to sim. Then version up again and try other settings or approaches while waiting.
Roger that, adding it to the to-do list. It might take a while until we get to it, but it will be good to have this. Will ping you when there are more news.
Cheers!
Understood, thank you for taking the time, Svetlin.
