Panorama, Rendering, Performance and Workflow Issues

Hello Chaos Support Team,

I would like to report several issues and feature requests related to Enscape and Chaos Cloud, particularly regarding panorama rendering, sharing, workflow, and performance.

We are an architectural/design company that has recently moved our visualization workflow from Lumion to Enscape, and we currently have 13 Enscape licenses across our team.

There are several workflow and functionality issues that we have encountered, particularly when working with Revit and 360° panoramas.

We would appreciate it if the Chaos team could review the following points, as resolving them would have a significant impact on our team’s day-to-day workflow.

1. Panorama Ordering in Chaos Cloud

Currently, there does not seem to be an option to manually arrange/order panorama images in Chaos Cloud.

For example, platforms such as Kuula allow users to organize the order of 360° panoramas, which makes it much easier to navigate through a project in the intended sequence.

It would be very useful to have an option to:

  • Manually reorder panoramas.

  • Set the starting panorama.

  • Control the navigation sequence between 360° images.

2. Folder Thumbnails & Sharing Preview

Chaos Cloud displays a thumbnail for a folder/project inside the Cloud interface, but this thumbnail does not appear correctly when the project is shared externally.

For example, when sharing a Chaos Cloud project through WhatsApp, the shared link does not show:

  • The project’s/folder’s thumbnail as a preview image.

  • The folder/project name correctly in the link preview.

It would be useful if the shared link generated a proper preview containing:

  • Project/folder thumbnail

  • Project/folder name

  • Appropriate description/title

Similar to how platforms such as Kuula generate link previews.

3. Enscape – Direct Upload to Chaos Cloud Fails After Rendering

This is one of the most important issues we are experiencing.

When rendering from Enscape and exporting/uploading directly to Chaos Cloud, the upload sometimes fails and displays an “Unable to export” error.

As a workaround, we have to manually upload the rendered files again after the rendering is completed.

Ideally, the workflow should be:

Enscape → Render → Automatically upload to Chaos Cloud

without requiring the user to manually upload the files again.

Please investigate whether this is related to the Enscape-to-Cloud integration, especially for panorama renders.

4. Panorama Output Settings in Enscape

When rendering a panorama/360° image, the Output settings in Enscape appear to have very limited control.

Currently, the panorama output mainly provides a resolution option, while several other settings in the Output tab do not seem to affect the final panorama.

It would be useful to have dedicated panorama output settings, including controls for:

  • Resolution

  • Image quality

  • Compression

  • File format

  • Other relevant panorama-specific output parameters

5. Slow Loading When Switching Between 360° Images in Chaos Cloud

Viewing 360° images in Chaos Cloud can be relatively slow.

When switching from one panorama to another, each image appears to require a loading period before it becomes visible.

Compared with platforms such as Kuula, where switching between 360° images feels much faster and more seamless, the current experience can feel slow when reviewing multiple panoramas.

It would be helpful to improve this through:

  • Faster panorama loading

  • Preloading the next/previous panorama

  • Better caching

  • Progressive loading

  • Optimized 360° image delivery

6. Enscape Rendering Stops When Editing the Revit Model

This is another important Enscape/Revit workflow issue.

Sometimes, while an Enscape rendering is in progress, if we make a change to the Revit model, the rendering stops or gets interrupted.

For example:

Start rendering → Make a change in Revit → Rendering stops

This can be particularly problematic when working on large projects or when the rendering takes a significant amount of time.

It would be useful if Enscape could either:

  • Continue the current render independently from subsequent Revit changes, or

  • Provide a more robust rendering process that is not interrupted by unrelated model modifications.

7. Enscape Visual Settings – Additional Rendering Controls

The Enscape visual settings currently feel more limited compared with some of the visualization tools we previously used in Lumion.

For example, Lumion provides additional visual controls and effects such as:

  • Global Illumination

  • Hyperlight

  • Sharpening

  • Advanced Color Correction

  • Additional image enhancement controls

Adding more advanced visual controls to Enscape would provide greater control over the final image without requiring additional post-processing software.

In particular, advanced controls for:

  • Sharpening

  • Contrast

  • Color grading/correction

  • Global illumination

  • Exposure and lighting

  • Image enhancement

would be very useful for professional architectural visualization workflows.

Overall Feedback

We are genuinely interested in making Enscape our primary visualization solution, which is why we have already moved our workflow from Lumion and currently have 13 licenses in use.

If these workflow and functionality issues are addressed, particularly the Revit rendering workflow, Chaos Cloud panorama experience, direct Cloud uploading, and panorama performance, we see significant potential to expand our Enscape usage and licenses across the company.

We would appreciate it if the Chaos team could confirm whether these are known issues, planned improvements, or if there are recommended workarounds.

We would also be happy to provide additional information, screen recordings, or example projects if that would help your team reproduce and investigate these issues.

Thank you for your support, and we look forward to seeing Enscape continue to improve.

Best regards,
Ahmed Khalil

Hi @Ahmed_Khalil and thank you for the detailed feedback!

I am the Product Manager for Chaos Cloud so I will try to address the related topics. @Mehmet_Gunduz can help with the Enscape specific items.

1. Panorama Ordering in Chaos Cloud

  • This is actually possible in Chaos Cloud while using Virtual tours. My guess is you may be working in standard folders which has standard file sorting only. When uploading files from Enscape make sure you create a Virtual Tour and upload your panoramas there to take advantage of all the features - you can reorder panoramas, set which one to be first, connect panoramas/files with hotspots that can be also generated automatically and more.

Once you open the tour in Chaos Cloud you can rearrange files as follows:
    Cloud_VTours_Rearrange.gif

The user then can navigate the virtual tours either using the gallery in the bottom, the arrows appearing close to the edge of the screen to go forward or back or via the hotspots you have created inside the tour for more immersive walktrough.

**2. Folder Thumbnails & Sharing Preview
    **
This is a feature we have just added to our list and will work on over the coming weeks. Bear in mind that Sharing Previews are only available for items that you share publicly (setting the access to anyone can View, anyone can comment). If you share a link to an item that is privately shared with a specific group of users will not generate a preview for security reasons.

**3. Enscape – Direct Upload to Chaos Cloud Fails After Rendering
    **
We will talk to our QA’s to try to replicate the issue. I have rendered panoramas multiple times and automatically uploaded them to Chaos Cloud successfully.

Can you give us a bit more information about your scenario so we can check the issue - can you give me the Enscape Version you used, did you render single or batch panoramas and the quality settings that you used.

**5. Slow Loading When Switching Between 360° Images in Chaos Cloud
    **
This is a quick improvement we decided to work on immediately! We have added loading a lower resolution version almost instantly while the full resolution is loading. The fix is already on our test environment and should be released over the next few days!

I hope this is helpful! We are always working on improvements and are eager to learn about how customers are using our products!

    Best Regards,

@vasil_garbev Hi, thank you for the detailed response and for taking our feedback seriously. I really appreciate your willingness to investigate these issues and the quick action on panorama loading performance.

1. Panorama Ordering

Thank you for clarifying the Virtual Tours workflow. We were using standard folders rather than Virtual Tours, so I will explore this workflow and test the available features.

2. Folder Thumbnails & Sharing Previews

Thank you for adding this feature to your list. Having the project thumbnail and name appear when sharing publicly would be a valuable improvement for our client presentations.

3. Enscape Direct Upload Issue

Here are the details of our setup to help your QA team investigate the issue:

  • Enscape version: 4.20.0.886

  • Renderer version: 4.20.0.417-g9a437af

  • Revit version: 2025

  • Rendering type: Batch Panorama Rendering

  • Rendering quality: High

When rendering multiple panoramas and uploading them directly to Chaos Cloud, we sometimes encounter an “Unable to export” error. As a workaround, we have to upload the rendered files manually afterward.

We would appreciate it if your QA team could investigate this behavior using the above configuration. I can provide a screen recording, screenshots, or logs if needed.

4. Panorama Loading Performance

I have tested the recent improvement to panorama loading, and I can confirm that there is a noticeable improvement in loading times. The panoramas now load faster, making navigation between multiple 360° views smoother and more convenient.

Thank you for addressing this so quickly. It’s great to see our feedback translated into a tangible improvement, and I appreciate the team’s responsiveness.

5. Additional Visual Effects and Rendering Controls in Enscape

I would also like to emphasize another important point from our original feedback: the need for more advanced visual effects and image adjustment controls in Enscape.

Since we recently transitioned from Lumion to Enscape, we have noticed differences in the level of control available for refining the final rendered image.

For example, Lumion offers visual effects and adjustments such as Hyperlight, sharpening, advanced color correction, and additional lighting and image enhancement controls.

We would appreciate more flexibility in Enscape, particularly through:

  • Global Illumination: More control over indirect lighting and light bouncing.

  • Sharpening: Adjustable image sharpness directly within Enscape.

  • Color Correction and Grading: More advanced control over contrast, saturation, highlights, shadows, and color balance.

  • Lighting and Image Enhancement: Additional controls to refine the final visual appearance without relying on external post-processing software.

We understand that Enscape has its own rendering approach, and we are not necessarily asking for an exact replication of Lumion’s effects. Our main request is to have more flexibility to achieve the desired visual quality directly within Enscape.

For our team, this is particularly important because we use architectural visualization for professional presentations and client approvals. Better control over the final image would make Enscape a more complete replacement for our previous workflow.

Best regards,

Hi Ahmed, and thank you for taking the time to write such detailed feedback. It’s really valuable to hear from teams who’ve moved over from Lumion, because you notice things we can easily overlook.

Regarding point 5 - you’re right that Enscape takes a different approach. Many lighting and image decisions are handled automatically to keep the workflow fast, so some controls you’re used to don’t have a direct one-to-one equivalent. Some of them simply live in different places, though, so I wanted to share a few things that may help in the meantime. Apologies if you’re already familiar with some of these.

Global illumination and indirect light

  • Enscape calculates indirect lighting automatically, and Rendering Quality has a big influence on it. The most noticeable jump is usually from Medium to High. Ultra adds some additional light bounces, but the difference between High and Ultra isn’t always that striking.
  • If your request is about enclosed rooms looking too dark, that’s something we’re aware of. In mostly enclosed spaces without artificial light sources, there’s physically just not much light reaching the room. We currently don’t have a setting that controls global illumination brightness independently. The reason is that such a control can easily lead to subtly worse results in many cases unless it’s handled with a lot of care.
  • What can help, depending on the scene, is adjusting the sun and/or artificial light brightness. This is useful when the contrast between a brightly lit exterior and a dimmer interior feels too strong. To some degree, the Highlights and Shadows settings can help with this as well.
  • The Light Management panel lets you adjust the intensity and color of artificial lights directly in Enscape and save them as presets per view, without changing your CAD values.
  • If you rely heavily on emissive materials (LED strips, light panels), enabling the “Ray traced artificial light” setting makes Enscape treat them as direct light sources rather than as part of global illumination, which can give you better lighting.

Sharpness

  • We don’t currently have a sharpening slider in the UI. If images look slightly soft, it’s worth checking that Chromatic Aberration (Visual Settings > Image > Effects) is set to 0, since it softens edges, and that depth of field is off for shots that should be crisp.
  • Rendering at a higher resolution, or using the AI Upscaler in Chaos Cloud (2x/4x), can noticeably increase texture detail without longer render times.

Color correction

  • Most of the adjustments you mention are available under Visual Settings > Image. You can turn off Auto Contrast to control Highlights and Shadows manually, and adjust Saturation and Color Temperature. Exposure is on the Main tab. Color balance options are more limited at the moment.
  • If you have a reference image for the mood you want, the Chaos Assistant’s Light Mood Match can generate a matching view and a reusable visual preset from it, which is a quick way to get a consistent look across views.
  • Saving your settings as visual presets and assigning them to views keeps the look consistent across a whole presentation.

Lighting and image enhancement
Could you tell us a bit more about what you have in mind here? For example, are you thinking of glare or flare effects around light sources, or something else you used in Lumion? Enscape has Bloom and Lens Flare under Visual Settings > Image > Effects, but we’d like to understand which effects you’re missing before suggesting anything further.

If you get a chance to try some of these, we’d love to hear how it goes: what worked, and where you still feel limited. An example image would help a lot too, ideally with a Lumion version of the same view or a reference for the look you’re aiming for. That way we can suggest settings for your specific case and better understand where the gap feels biggest for your team.

Thanks again for the thoughtful feedback, and welcome to Enscape!

@dilney Hi, and thank you for the detailed response and for clarifying the current Enscape features and workflows.

I’m already familiar with most of the settings you mentioned, and I understand better now which areas are already covered by the current tools. There are still a few specific things we would like to see improved based on our daily workflow:

1. More Artistic Control Over Indirect Lighting

I understand that Enscape already has Global Illumination and Hyperlight, and that Rendering Quality has a significant effect on the result.

What we are looking for is not another GI or Hyperlight feature, but more artistic control over their contribution to the final image.

For example, there are cases where the calculated lighting is physically correct, but we would still like to push the bounced light and overall light distribution further to achieve the visual result we want.

A dedicated control that allows artists to fine-tune this contribution would be very useful, especially for architectural interiors.

2. Dedicated Sharpening Control

Thank you for confirming that there is currently no dedicated sharpening slider.

This is still something we would like to see added directly to Enscape.

We would like to have a simple control that allows us to adjust the final image sharpness independently, rather than relying on resolution, AI Upscaler, Chromatic Aberration, or Depth of Field settings.

This would be particularly useful for architectural visualization, where we often need materials, edges, and product details to appear more crisp and defined.

3. More Advanced Color Grading

I understand that many of the basic color adjustments are already available under Visual Settings > Image.

What we are looking for is a more advanced color-grading workflow for users who want more control over the final visual style.

For example:

  • More precise color balance
  • Hue-based adjustments
  • LUT support

The current controls are useful for general adjustments, but a more advanced grading workflow would allow us to achieve the final look directly in Enscape without moving the render into Photoshop or another post-processing application.

4. Direct Material Selection and Editing from the Enscape Viewport

Another workflow improvement we would really like to see is the ability to select a material directly from the Enscape viewport and edit it immediately.

We are familiar with the existing Material Editor. The issue is mainly the process of finding the material we want to edit.

In a large Revit model, we may see a material in the Enscape view that we want to change, but we first need to identify the material name and then locate it in the Material Editor.

A workflow such as:

Click material in viewport → Edit Material → Make changes

would make material iteration much faster.

Ideally, clicking an object or material directly in the Enscape viewport could provide an option to open its corresponding material in the Material Editor.

5. Multi-Selection and Group Editing for Assets

Another limitation we encounter frequently is the ability to select and modify multiple assets at the same time.

For example, if we select five assets in the Asset Library and want to move or scale them together, we currently have to handle them individually. Moving multiple assets can sometimes be handled from Revit, but for operations such as scaling, the workflow becomes more difficult.

It would be very useful to have the ability to:

  • Select multiple assets and move them together
  • Scale multiple selected assets together
  • Apply other available transformations to multiple assets at once
  • Create an asset group and control the entire group as a single object

A grouping workflow would be especially useful for repeated furniture, vegetation, decorative elements, or other asset collections. Being able to create a group in Enscape and then move, scale, or transform the whole group would make the Asset workflow much faster and easier to manage.

6. More Flexible Multi-Selection for Assets and Lights

Related to this, we would also like to have a more flexible multi-selection workflow for assets and lights.

Currently, selection using Shift can be useful for selecting a continuous area, but if we want to select several individual elements that are located in different areas of the scene, there is no equivalent to using Ctrl + Click to add or remove individual items from the selection.

For Light Management, selecting lights by name is possible, but in large projects with many repeated lights and assets, being able to directly select multiple individual elements from the scene would be much faster.

For example:

Ctrl + Click → Add/remove individual assets or lights from the current selection

This would make it much easier to work with repeated elements that are spread across different areas of a large project.

7. More Complete 360° / Panorama Output Controls

The other area we would like to improve is the 360° panorama workflow.

We would like to have more dedicated output controls specifically for panoramas, particularly for:

  • Resolution
  • File format
  • Image quality / compression
  • Other panorama-specific output parameters

Having these controls directly within the Panorama workflow would make it easier to prepare panoramas for different platforms and project requirements.

8. Enhanced Cloud Virtual Tour Customization Options

Finally, regarding web-hosted Panoramas and Virtual Tours, while hotspot support is already available, having more editing options directly within the cloud tour interface would streamline client presentation.

Specifically, it would be extremely helpful to have built-in capabilities to:

  • Add custom text overlays and annotations

  • Apply and adjust image filters and effects (such as HDR tone mapping, color presets/filters, sharpness, and intensity) directly on the uploaded panorama

Having these post-processing and annotation controls natively in the Cloud Virtual Tour editor would save significant effort when making quick adjustments or providing contextual details for clients online.

Thank you again for taking the time to go through our feedback. We really appreciate the Enscape team’s openness to suggestions from users.

Hi @Ahmed_Khalil,

Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback. Let me chime in on points 4, 5 and 6.

4. Direct material selection and editing from the viewport
This is on our radar. We would like to invest some effort in this direction, but most probably starting next year.

5. Multi-selection and group editing for assets
Both are right catches. I’m also glad to say that we are currently working on the multi asset placement topic. It will be delivered in parts, so some of the needs you mention (like grouping) may come later, but please keep an eye on the release notes because we plan to deliver first improvements already towards the end of the year.

6. More flexible multi-selection for assets and lights
For assets, same as above, this is part of the work we are doing now.

For lights, this is actually already possible:

  1. Make sure you are in a light preset other than CAD Defaults.
  2. Switch to batch edit mode (the small icon on the top right of the Light Management window).
  3. Now every click on a light source in the viewport works like Ctrl + Click, so it adds or removes that light from the selection. Shift selection is also available.

Alternatively, you can also select the lights from the list on the left.

Thanks again for taking the time to write all this down, and let us know if the light selection works for you.

Hi @Mehmet_Gunduz1 ,

Thank you for the clarification. I tested the light batch-edit workflow, and it worked perfectly.

Thanks again for the support and for taking our feedback into consideration.

Hi, thank you for coming back with such clear and specific points. It really helps to understand exactly what you’re missing in your daily workflow. My colleague has already responded to points 4–6, so I’ll focus on the image-related ones.

1–3. Indirect lighting, sharpening and advanced color grading
Thanks for clarifying. It’s now clear that you’re looking for artistic control on top of what’s physically calculated, rather than new effects.

To be transparent: keeping Enscape simple and fast to work with has been an intentional choice, which is why we’ve kept the image controls focused on the essentials. That said, we fully understand that teams producing final client-facing visuals sometimes need more fine-tuning. We’ll keep your requests in mind, and if we see more users asking for the same, that will help us weigh them for the future.

In the meantime, I’d like to suggest giving Enscape Envision a try. It’s designed for exactly this kind of high-end presentation work and offers more detailed image controls, for example:

  • LUT support, with an adjustable amount and color space options
  • White balance and exposure controls, including setting exposure from a picked surface
  • Bloom with threshold and spread, in addition to intensity
  • A tone mapping mode that matches Enscape, so your scenes keep a familiar look when you bring them over

You can send your scene from Enscape to Envision in one click, so it should be quick to test with one of your current projects.

If you do try it, we’d really like to hear whether it gets you closer to the look you’re after, and where you still feel limited.

Thanks again for the detailed feedback and for taking the time to explain your workflow so clearly.

@dilney Thanks for the detailed explanation and for the suggestion. I’ll give Enscape Envision a try and see how well it fits my workflow. I’ll share my feedback after testing it.
