Parallax Bump

Hi,
I’ve seen lately that FStorm is adding a Parallax bump.

I didn’t know this technique but it would be awesome to have something similar in VRay GPU.
I know that it would not replace Displacement but since I’m using VRay GPU I always tried to get away from Displacement map. As I’m rendering most of my project in 10K I know that it will mostly never fit in the GPU Ram.

This Parallax Bump could be a great alternative for some situation.
Do you think that it is possible to do and are you interested in this kind of feature ?

Interesting - I’d not come across this either but quickly found this, which is a good read LearnOpenGL - Parallax Mapping
So in theory would be not necessarily an alternative but a great addition to normal maps for…whatever

Enscape support virtual displacement or parallax mapping and it looks quite good. Impressive to get a displacement look without to use micro polygons. Is there a chance to get this for V-Ray GPU?

+1 This will be a great addition! Regular displacement can be cumbersome to use at times. Especially when you have two surfaces with displacement that intersecting each other (decals such as a man hole cover and the asphalt pavement). The system in unreal or how f-storm seems to implement seems to be very intuitive.

Here an other impressive implementation for Cinema 4D from 2016:

It’s really great looking, most if the edges of the mapped area doesn’t need a displacement like here:

Or as an other example think on a computer keyboard like this:

I wonder that it wasn’t discussed for V-Ray before. Is it not an impressive interesting method?

Oh its been brought up for sure, but I’m unsure if it ever was ever seriously considered…
