My renderings were stopping midway during ‘Building light cache’ phase whenever I tried to render an orthogonal view such as plan or front. After pulling my hair (almost all of it …) I figured out the issue:
Any vertical surface (projecting as a line) where a displaced material has been applied freezes the rendering. I cant stop it either and the only solution is to kill rhino and in a couple of occasions reboot the system.
Attached is an example. Needless to say that this is urgent.

We are currently investigating this with the developers and this seems to be a bug with legacy ASGVIS plugins.
Please note that if you change the displacement ‘Mode / Map’ parameter to ‘2D Displacement’ the issue does not occur.
Once we have further feedback regarding this issue, we will make sure to post it here.
Thanks for the tip Georgi. I know that you and I talked about this during our TeamViewer session but I wanted to let other users know about the problem in case they have ‘mystery’ freezes while rendering an orthogonal view.
