For some reason the path sampling option under DMC is now greyed out. Has anyone else had this?
From the SP1 changelog:
“Schlick sampling is now the only path sampler supported by V-Ray”
I believe this is because Schlick smpling is the most efficient from the old set of three, and to force everyone to use it. No access to the legacy sampler can only be a problem if you seriously need to match he noise pattern of a previous render pixel by pixel, but imo thats a rare issue.

Well, it’s not only a case of noise matching.
It took me years to get to understand, and use PREDICTABLY, the old options.
It’s taking me more time to get used to the new sampler.
So oftentimes i have to perform renders, test and check, before submitting the final image knowing it will behave as i want it to.
Also, the previous samplers rendered LC and PPT in a more random way, leading to a better interpolation of samples by the eye when samples were very few (ie. i would be immediately able to “read” the image as the calculations started.).
Me, I’d like to see the previous options back and available, while the new one could stay as a default.
Maybe i’m the only one…
Yup, all true. I’m on re-learning some thumb rules too.
(If you can read morse, funny things can be read from a schlick LC prepass. hehe 
)

Just a quick one - i guess that you can still change the path sampler…
renderers.current.dmc_pathSampler_type = 0 (0,1,2)

it changes the greyed out menu, but not the sampler (check the LC for reference)
that’s in fact what i doubted after running some tests just now 
well, a pity… we have to live a life in Schlick then, could be worse.

My vote for the old sampling to come back on … wat’s the issue of the old sampling.
No harm giving the user some options in that?

The old sampling cannot be added back. However, for the SP2, there are some improvements in this area.
