My client has asked for a PDF vector image.
am i crazy or is this not actually possible with a raster based output of vray?
to me it just sounds like they are incompetent in what they are asking for!
but maybe im out of date!

we had a brilliant one yesterday, after going through about three ammends (like changing materials, brightening all lights etc.) to a full quality high res image yesterday, and updating it and sending back the changes, once they were approved the client said - “thanks, you can render this now”.
what?
do you actually know what rendering is?
i get this all the time, just explain to them its not posible.
Well…if is posible to save it as an eps/pdf/ai but its not going to be a vector image, 
i actually did just save it as a PDF, with jpg compression and it was fine… BUT they came back and said ‘this is not a vector image!’
so difficult, not to be rude in these situations
You could use flash and do the raster to vector conversion(trace bitmap). You can control the quality a lot, but it will be an ENORMOUS file, and will take a long time.
oh…but if you do that…its still just a bunch of “pixels” but its just vector pixels.
Ask them to send you an example 
What do they think they are going to do with a vector based EPS of your file?
If they plan to use it for The base of a CAD file they’re asking for trouble.
Maybe if you find out their intentions for the file you can suggest a better idea, or tactfully let them know they are up in the night.
Don’t know if this helps but there are shareware type programs/utilities that supossedly converts tiff, .pdf, .pict, .gif, .jpg, .png, and .icns. images to PDF vector files. See the link below
Illustrator can convert raster to vector
yep, but it looks arse
I had a client in the past who assumed that because I was an illustrator, all my work was produced in “adobe illustrator” :roll:
Converting it to vector is the last thing they’ll want to do if they are interested in blowing up the image. Instead of a nice smooth expansion of the tiny pixels they’ll end up with giant pixels with hard “edges” to all of them at the transistion to the neighboring pixel.
