-percentRes Render Flag

Dear Vlado/Chaosgroup,

I’ve been asking for this a couple of years ago already, but now in the context of rendermanagement with deadline i’ve come across the same problem:
Is there a way of implementing a “render xx% resolution” flag for testrender purposes? MR does it with the “-percentRes xx” flag which works perfectly. Vray and Deadline seem to ignore it completely.

kind regards,
-Rasmus

Are you rendering through Maya batch or through V-Ray Standalone? We don’t have this option in any case, I’m just wondering where to implement it. But you should be able to manually override the resolution in any case.

Best regards,
Vlado

Thanks Vlado for the quick reply,

We’re currently rendering via the deadline rendermanager which utilizes the maya batch commands. Overriding the scene settings’ resolution with a simple percentage value has several advantages over defining the x-y dimensions in pixel values, especially when rendering tiles.
Another huge improvement would be to describe render regions with relative values from 0 to 1 instead of dealing with absolute pixel values. This way tiles and regions would be resolution independent. Please let me know if you need further explanation or samples. Thanks once more for considering an implementation.

best regards,
Rasmus

I’ve logged both requests to our list, so we don’t forget about them.

Thanks Alex, we appreciate your efforts!

Support for the -percentRes flag is now in the 3.6 stable nightlies. The ability to set up regions with relative values is still on the to-do list.
