hi

i am sure here was a post with the same issue I currently have but I cant find

my dual i7 e5520 uses 50% of CPU power only
-bios hyperthreading is on
-bios “use all CPU” is on
-vray numthreads are 0
-Mental ray, Maxwell and others use 100% but vray not

if i remember right there is a bios CPU setting to disable but wich ?

please help

thats realy odd
I start up max and test a teapot file = 50% cpu usage for LC and IRR but 100% for render
I enable “show calc. phase” LC +IRR and I have 25% during GI and 100% in render ?

erm ?

how many passes do you have for LC ? they need to be as many as cores.

passes 16 = 100% (but still 50% on IRR. )

as soon I enable “show calc. phase” i have 25% LC and IRR

E5520 is not an i7.
We never had that problem with any system we configured.

If you use the “show calc. phase” option for large images, make sure you have the bitmap pager disabled, otherwise 3ds Max will attempt to page the frame buffer in and out of RAM, which will degrade performance greatly (since the light cache jumps all over the image).

I will reinstall the OS from the gound up - I have used an old HDD clone to setup the PC …

is your bucketsize to big?
