I have this odd problem in Photoshop, im certain its to do with my monitor and its color profile, and i have been able to fix it to an extent by turning off all color profiles…etc. in photoshop.
But still occasioanlly grays and alpha are purple… the whites are still white and the black are still black but everything inbetween is a shade of purple.
If i open a new image paint different levels of gray… which gives me a purple image.. then save the file and open it in IE or something it looks fine… grays are gray..etc.
But in PS its all messed up. I have it mostly under controll now but its bloody annoying.
Actually after abit of googleing i found a potential answer (cant try it as im not at home)
YOu need to go to view → proof setup → monitor RGB and that apprently fixes the problem.
Damn I have googled for ages for this problem in the past.. ah well. Will know for sure later.

reinstalling PS wouldnt make a difference as it depends on the monitor that you have.
It was the same purple for me on 2 differnet OS’s on 2 different computers and 3 different version of PS… the only thing that was the same was the monitor
My monitor shows gray fine in EVERY other program except photoshop.
How could i calibrate that ?
Actually even on Monitor RGB… when i look at the channels.. the indiviual R G & B are still are purple for the grays.
But the RGB channel itself is fine.
This problem usually occurs with flat screens. I had this problem at work and at home. And so far it seems that you only get rid of it if you set RGB Color Space from srgb (standard) to the color space of your monitor

. I don´t know if this color profile is installed by default. But in both of my cases I always had a color space available like “Monitor RGB - NEC Multisync” or “Monitor RGB - Samsung..”. Switching to that should solve the problem.
A monitor calibration didn´t solve the problem ! It seems that only photoshop has these problems. Every other program runs fine. (Those flatdesigners always need an extra sausage )
Havnt really calibrate my monitor… dont see how that would make a difference tho… its fine in all other programs.. just PS.
But i can get it to mostly look fine in PS by changing the color profile settings around but its still not fixed on all places of PS.

Well, that declares everything. If you haven’t calibrated your monitor, there is now way you can ever expect to (re)create accurate colors. The best is to use hardware calibration, but it also works very well to use the guide on AIM-dtp’s website.
Basically the steps are as following:
First, make sure you have proper blackpoint setting and set your monitor to 6500K whitepoint
Second, choose the appropriate gamma chart from AIM-dtp (although it principally sucks, I suggest you take gamma 2.2 as a calibration reference, since many textures, photos and stuff on internet as well as most pictures from consumer grade digital cameras are sRGB and not all image viewers like Photoshop use ICC profiles when displaying images)
Display the chart while adjusting the sliders in adobe gamma until the chart shows no colors and the gray bars appear to have the same luminance.
Funny tho cause this has only happened on this monitor. I have installed photoshop on many other machines without this issue.
Does this only happen with certain monitors?
Problem is that the article link inside doesn’t work anymore, and I can’t remember exactly what it was! But run the adobe gamma thing in control panel and it will be fixed i think.
I have a crt and an lcd in dual screen mode. Grey on the crt in photoshop is purple, but it’s ok on the lcd. What to do about that??
