Photoshop CS5… I have an 81 meg psd file… When I open it up, PSD is using over 5 gigs of memory… it is a site plan that I am coloring up,
It is a 24x36 at 150 dpi file… not big at all, but for some reason photoshop wont print… I cant change the settings, etc… weird… any ideas…

No idea why it won’t print (the memory figures don’t sound too off to me). Why not just save a jpg or tiff, restart PS, and then print the jpg?
Maybe because the printer dont have enought onboard memory to print what u ask to print?
Nah… its just that PS seems to always use more memory than I think it should… The print dialog box wont save the changes and this file doesnt seem any larger than I normally use. Win XP 64 blows in my opinion. lol… just gotta upgrade…
Could be some preferences in Pshop slowing you down a bit (history states, memory allocation) but 5GB is pretty big for a Photoshop file on an 8gb machine. I’m curious how you are getting up to 5GB from 81mb though: you must have a bagful of layers…?
Check under options and make sure your scratch disk location is set to a hard drive partition with plenty free space.
Try opening file in Paint and printing from there - that should rule out when ever its photoshop or not issue…
