the biggest advantage w/ Xeons over Athlons is Hypertreading…when I turn it on, it renders 25 to 30% faster…but otherwise they are not worth it price wise…
at home I have an older dual 1.7 GHZ athlons, and it was rendering as fast or close to my dual 2.4 GHZ Xeon at work w/ out hypertreding on.
so the Xeons alone (w/out hypertreading) are just over priced and really not worth it when put against the athlons…but when turning on hypertrading, you can definatly see a difference…epcially when crunching blurry reflections/refractions, and similars…
how ever many people around this board have been having issues w/ hypertrading, especially in animations…(do a search for it)
