I love the script and I use it on all my exterior scenes. Lately, it fails on pretty simple shapes, so is there a good alternative?
The only way I get the plugin to work is starting off with large sizes and keep dropping the size to what I want. If I start with a small size MAX just locks up. How else can you make equal grids on a ploy? You would link it MAX could do it natively.
I love Populate Terrain, but I’ve had it fail as well a couple of times. It seems as if the plane has an ‘edge’ or polygons that are not part of the general surface it will fail. Usually easy to find though.
It used to do it super fast, but now even simple shapes seem to struggle. It is an old script and I don’t think it has been update in years.
I use the full version of TerrainAxe (https://www.flyingcfx.com/) for landscaping. It needs a deeper learning curve and some patience if you need help from the author. But any question and problem I had was eventually solved. If you examine all the help videos close you will see it’s potential. I’m currently using it with Max2018, so not sure how is Max2019 compatibility.
After research for an alternative, I did see this one. I’ll check it out deeper.
Same here. Shame cause this is one useful script. The workaround I found is to use the Max’s Terrain compound and then apply Populate in retopo mode.
I don’t suppose anyone has managed to get Populate Terrain installed and working in Max 2019? Colleague asking…
Yes, I have it working.
Hmmm… I don’t know, it works fine here. I don’t think I did anything special. I am on MAX 2019
seriously? it will not work at all for me. What version are you using?
I am using MAX 2019 and it worked in MAX 2018, too.
Yes, that’s what I thought. Wondering about the version of the populate plugin you’re using. Really bothered by this; it was an integral tool for me. I guess I’ll look into TerrainAxe, or try to find the author of populate and ask for a recompile.
Here is the executable
