I’m pretty new to the software but getting the picture a bit.
I’m trying to make my own furniture en textures. I want to make furniture that looks realistic and not flat. This is pretty hard to create but I’m getting better at it.
The problem I ran into is the textures. I’ve made the sides of the chair a bit round so you get a more reastic chair but my texture doesn’t look right. Some kind of distortion shows up in my texture (at the roundings). I’ve made the rounding a little more flat but still I see some distortions.
I’ve used just the standaard setting for my UWV and Bumb setting:
UWV: Texture Mapping: Explicit Map Channel
UWV transform: U: 0.1
V: 0.1
Bitmap: Filter: Mip-map Blur: o tile
I know ther are other settings but I don’t really understand those.
I’ve included a render of my chair to show you what I mean.
I hope somebody can help me with this problem, cause it’s pretty important to get your furniture nicely textured. At least to get a realistic render.
Are you using linked materials?..I ask because linked materials are going to be the best way for you to control textures. Without linked materials SU won’t create UV information, which makes it very hard to control whats going on with the mappings.
Thanks for your quick reply.
I just create a V-ray material. I don’t really understand the linked materials. Should I add materials in sketch-up? Then add a linked material or something like that. Cause I ofcourse want to use a bumb map.
At the moment I’m trying something else and maybe I get a better result. Normally I just click on a Group and add the material. Every pillow is a Group of it’s own. Now I’ve entered the group and just selected all faces and added the material to the faces.
He’s building my light cache now and it’s seems better. I’ll let you know.
I’ve tried to add my material in sketch-up (I guess this is what you mean with the linked material), but there still is’n much of a difference. It still has a strange distortion around the edges.
first import the picture to sketchup, then put it on your chair. select it, richt mouse button, V-ray for sketchup, create material, vraylinkedmtl, select the material in the list.
now add your bump map (for surfaces, 3d objects use displacement) and your done. you can add some reflection if you like.
now there wont be anny distortion
an exemple (only in the corner it’s a bit fucked up becouse I made a curve wich was to small and then added an bigger curve but now my corner is al litle squares xD)
show your result
i made another one, light from below. i suck at creating corners and keeping an good texture ::). but it should do the job this way
here is the light in an angle, as you see, no interuptions (the black dots in the midle is becouse the picture i used sucks)
I’ve been workin’on my texture and curves again and still it doesn’t work properly.
I’m beginning to get pretty handy with the curves but I just can’t get my texture right.
I tried the linked material but this doesn’t make a real difference. Still it’s a great way to see how you texture will come out after you press render.
I tried different curves (bigger and smaller) but still have the same problem. I also tried to make it on a extreme large scale and scale it back (so I get better curves).
No success ;-(
But I think I found my problem but still looking for the anwser.
I saw that my texture goes wrong in my hidden Geometry. All the curves are build out of lines and squares and my texture doesn’t flow right. Check out these 2 pictures than you can see what I mean.
I really getting a bit crazy about this. It’s frustrating that I can’t find a solution.
and what’s up with the side of your chair? why is it not flat, i dont think you can see much of a difference.
i’m trying to figure out how to solve this.
creating a better rounding wont help
i made a “high ress” corner but the problem wont go away :-\
i tried another material. a material from aser28.
it’s leather (i think you want leather) only it doesn’t have these darker grooves.
problem is, it’s much lighter (you can change that) and it looks more flat
you wont have as much distortion in the corner though becouse it has no lines
(the lines you see is becouse of the sun and the diferent angles of these lines, as you can see in the above screenshot, the horizontal way is not “high ress”)
Thanks for your reply again. If you make a pillow you don’t want it to be flat on the top and bottom. So I made the side a bit round just to see what the texture will do.
I’m gonna try some different texture a check out the result.
I also hope that somebody has an anwser for us, cause this is something that pretty important.
