Pros and Cons of Vray Distributed Rendering

What is the ‘pros’ and ‘cons’ of using Vray Distributed Rendering? I wanted to know if there was any differences if i were to render an animated walkthrough animation on slave computers from mine. I hope anyone would share their thoughts and experienced with me.

Re: Pros and Cons of Vray Distributed Rendering

The con that probably matters the most to you at the moment is that DR will not work with animations. Since that’s your main goal here it doesn’t seam like any amount of pros will really help. Sorry.

Re: Pros and Cons of Vray Distributed Rendering

Thanks for the cons but unfortunately I was expecting more out of the cons as well as the pros as I actually wanted to compared this to Backburner that is bundled with 3DS Max as well as other renderfarms out there so I was hoping for more knowledge on those. :-\

Re: Pros and Cons of Vray Distributed Rendering

Comparing DR to backburner is like comparing apples to oranges. Network rendering and Distributed rendering have a different purpose in mind, so I’m not sure there’s pros and cons as much as just differences between the two.

Right now DR is just meant to share one render across multiple computers. That sharing has to be specified (ie you have to say which computers will contribute to the render) and there isn’t any mechanisms for queuing jobs. So its more about the one render right now as fast as possible.

Network rendering is meant to share multiple images across multiple computers. That means that there are more mechanism for multiple jobs and dealing with the machines that will help is more flexible. However, most of the time network rendering boils down to one image being rendered on one machine. Unless you’re doing an animation or batching a number of images it may not be as helpful as DR.
