PSD-Manager for Max2017

Someone using PSD-Manager can tell me when Max2017 will be supported?

Tried posting in Cebas forum, but no replies or the Forum is dead!!

I am using it. Maybe, I can email you the installer, but it can’t be until later today.

Hi Bobby,

That would be great! Sent you private message. Thanks!

the PSD manager forum has always been lacking in my experience…did Daniel mail you a beta or something??

I think I have a beta. I know the 2016 didn’t work in 2017, so he sent me a new installer.[quote=“wyszolmirski, post:4, topic:51760, username:wyszolmirski”]

Hi Bobby,

The installer you sent is for Max2015. In my account on Cebas I can download a newer installer for Max2016, but that one also does not work for Max2017.
How did you get it to work under Max2017?

I think the forum isn’t the place to go, he doesn’t look there often. Maybe you can use the websites contact page.

Tried Forum, tried websites contact page and more. No response. You don’t have the beta-installer anymore?

He hangs out here, too, so I am sure he’ll show up.

What exactly is PSD manager bringing to the table? Isn’t it just taking the render elements and putting them in the right order with the right blending mode into a photoshop file?

I actually think VRay should be able to do this directly into some of the more popular composite formats like psd. Vlado? Surely that can’t be much work…

For me, all the layers are perfectly masked.

But you have to assign a material id for that to work, no? Or it actually creates a mask for each layer?

EDIT: Never mind, I see on their site that this is one of the advantages. It doesn’t sound so good though to hear that the developer isn’t responsive.

mask for each layer.

That is not correct. I get an email every time someone starts a new thread. If something in the forum was not answered then it is just because that person also contacted me or Cebas via other channels (usually via email). For example Bobby asked for a 2017 version earlier this year while he already had access to a Beta vesrion (which he can not share) and so I sent him sensitive information via email.

In general there is not much traffic on the cebas forum because I do ususally answer questions via email or here. A problem with smaller plugins is always that there is not that much to discuss if things just work. So not many users will go there regularry unless they have an issue to solve. So in the end it is usually me answering questions anyway and not users among each other. So not much traffic over there is actually a good thing.

To answer the central question. A new psd-manager version that will also support 3ds max 2017 is in the works since a while and will be available later this quarter. There will be new stuff besides 2017 support that I hope you will enjoy (so not a free update this time). Sorry for making you wait.

Best Regards,
Daniel Schmidt

thanks for the update

And my apologize for offering to share. I totally forgot it is still in beta.

i never used it but always just heard about it, what do you mean it masks each layer? what if its an interior with many elements? it creates a color map for each object you can use as a mask?

It saves a 32bit PSD with all the elements and all your layers are masked. So, let’s say all your exterior glass is on the glass layer. In PS you would ctrl+click the glass layer and you will get the dancing ants around all the glass. If you go into one of my models you’ll see a dozen + of these PS layers. Anything, at any time, I can select everything on a layer with a ctrl+click.

aha, must be a tonne of layers then, i usually don’t use layers unless i need them and render mask does all i need, how does the file size look come render time for the photoshop files? i have a 3 terabyte hard disk and another 2 terabyte and so fast i fill it up with regular psd files

When you are saving PSD layers/channels for use as selections then these don’t take up much file space because they lend themselfs perfectly for image compression. So you can have large numbers of these special purpose layers and will not make much of a difference in terms of PSD file size. So the actual number of PSD layers is not what is relevant in terms of file size - the image content is.
