We should purchase soon a Xeon 5335.

Is it helpful to jump the ram to 8 GIG instead of 4 GIG ?

I am sure VRAY will use what you give it, but the money might be better spent in a top notch graphics card.

I did just that…8 gigs…Well..Damn that is a lot of RAM and honestly…I cant remember ever needing that much…Better scene optimizing someone told me once…LOL…BUt yeah…take Bobby’s advice and get a 8800gtx or something snazzy

Depends on the complexity of your scenes or how complex you want them to become. If you’re going to make that purchase anyways, I’d recommend a 8800 GTX as well as the 8 gigs if you can afford it.

I have one comp/slave on x64 which has 1 gig of ram - it keeps dropping during rendering. The rest which have 2 gigs can handle my scenes. Without x64, these computers wouldn’t work. My main which has 4 is great to use. I can only imagine 8 would be great to work with.

Its quite simple.. you only need 8gb if you need 8gb. If all you render is simple product shots then 8gb is a total waste. It wont make any difference.

However if you do large scale renders with all the fancy bits turned on then 8gb might well help.
The only time adding more memory is usefull is if your running out of it. Other than that its no use.

Memory isnt a performance increaser as such it just prevents performance from dropping of when you run out of memory and run into disk paging… then things get REALLY slow.

Check memory usage of your scenes now when rendering .. if they are only like 2gb or so.. then unless you foresee a large jump in your scene sizes/complexity, spend more money on more cpu power or a better video card which will help your viewport speeds.

GTX GTX GTX GTX! 8gb is great, but you could compromise and go 6gb with an 8800GTX…Hmmmm more gaming power :slight_smile: sorry should read rendering power.

But it seems here in canada 675.00 . does it worth the money. We don’t manage huge scene yet, but it’ll come soon.

Thats kinda like asking how long is a piece of string.
It depends on the case, the fans, the heatsinks..etc..etc..
So depends on who builds it and how much effort they go to, to make it quiet :slight_smile:

Ours are pretty quiet all things considered, but you certainly know when they’re on :smile:

Now and again the fans will kick in and you think they’re going to take off!
