Raw Renders

I’ve been playing with photogrammetry a lot lately and came up with this after scanning a bunch of veggies.

Top notch as usual.

The carrots look a bit too smooth to me. Also, the cauliflower needs deeper grooves or a rougher texture. But that’s just being picky. Well done.

What did you use for the scans and to create the models from the scans?

Really cool stuff. It would fool me.

Yes, the cauliflower is stretching credulity. I used photogrammetry for scanning (Agisoft’s Photoscan). It needs loads of surface detail for high accuracy and the cauliflower’s all-white uniformity makes it struggle. Without enough surface detail, things can get blobby very quickly.

spray paint a cauliflower mid grey prior to scanning?

awesome work as always Bertrand

Or just by purple cauliflower… Fantastic images!

Hey BB,
I’m using another program that is way waaaay better than Agisoft Photoscan so if you’d like, send me a few shots and I’ll pass them through it and send you the results back, you’ll see, it will be way better

Stan

nice scans,

and yes it seems photoscan has some serious competition now… I’ll post some city models I’ve been working on at some point.

though photoscan is a lot less beta feeling. and a good option for this sized work.

Once again awesome stuff Bertrand.

Very impressive! Makes me wanna play with a camera as well

That piece of ginger is the biggest i have ever seen.
we need to utilize photoscan a bit more, got some good trees out of it but there’s a massive list of stuff we want to grab. need some downtime.

Would you mind sharing the name of program you are using Stan?

Sure, Reality Capture

Best on the market as of today as it creates waaay better results than photoscan and is at least 250x faster

I have a license sonif you guys want to try it out, just send the shots and I’ll pass it through the mix

Reality Capture is the best yes. +100000

yeah rc is a lot faster.

but you cant export cameras to max yet. i think it works on maya. but like a lot of things in that software it will be coming soon.

Great stuff!

As for the cauliflower, I actually got some pretty good results from Photoscan a few years back.

Not perfect, but I was amazed at how much of the detail it managed to capture. It does help that I rarely need or use the diffuse when I’ve scanned stuff, so I will often under-expose the images which gives Photoscan more information.

Or, as Peter suggested, paint the object grey or sprinkle talcum powder on it. I sprayed this lemon and orange with primer and then used some talcum powder to help knock back the reflections.

Of course, if you’re pulling the diffuse from the photographs then this isn’t much help!

Very nice.
How many poligons?Do you import into ZBrush to optimize?

And I am wondering about your photography setup in terms of light.

Yeah I always wondered if you use some kind of tabletop that rotates with a fixed cam and light setup or if you pin the subject on a stick and navigate handheld around it to take all the shots.

Or any other way?

hi - very interested in this at the moment as well!

i tried using autodesk memento recently with mixed results… it certainly doesn’t work well if your subject is a human and they are incapable of staying perfectly still!

@Sbrusse Just to be clear, do you guys mean Capturing Reality software? Versus Reality Capture.
