reactor + motion blur

Hi,

I’m doing a really simple reactor sim. Just some sphere falling on a plane. if I hit play in max I can see the sphere sometimes rotate like crazy in between frames, if I play only the full frames it looks perfect.

you can see the rotation of an object here: http://www.suurland.com/tests/trackview.jpg as you can see those spikes all the time is the object rotating near 360 degrees.

I need to use motion blur so what goes on between frames is important, and right now the motion blur looks really funny.. is there any way to get reactor to stop doing this?

short answer is yes.
I cant remember exactly and I don’t have max at hand, but you want to look at the rotation controller and change it from TCB to linear, or some other one I cant remember exactly.

Default is EulerXYZ so changed to linear, helped A LOT but there was still a few objects doing weird stuff, then changed to TCB and all is perfect it seems.. so thanks A LOT

its odd that this happens. I had this issue back on max 7 and early vray 1.4 and vlado helped me out.

Some sort of Euler filter should be able to fix this, but I’m not sure anyone has written this for max. The only time I have encountered this, I manually offsat (offsetted???) the keys so the curves were continuous. Not sure if that works in all cases though.

Well there is an Euler Filter built into the TrackView. On a second note you might wanna remove in-between keys alltogether with a script.

Thorsten

As mentioned above it was fixed by switching to TCB.

Yep the sub frames can be a bit bananas alright.
