Hi, we had this issue for quite some time, with multiple projects: in some animations when I enable the Remove Flickering option for the Nvidia OptiX denoiser the final image is saved with several bright dots that are not even there in the not denoised image, however when disabling the Remove Flickering the denoiser works well.
This happened with several Vantage versions and driver versions, it’s a problem i’ve seen on different projects for quite some time but not in all of them - sometimes it’s there, sometimes it’s not.
- Have you enabled motion blur for this Vantage render?
- Is this rendered through Live Link? Is it the same if you use a vrscene file?
- Are there warning log messages for the faulty frames? (Help->Open debug log)
- Try enabling the “Velocity” render element and check if it looks broken in those frames
I had the same issue a few years ago through Live Link. It wasn’t there when rendering a vrscene. I don’t remember anything about log messages, but the velocity pass itself was completely black (only in Live Link). I fixed it by accident by cleaning the whole scene of any potential causes, but I still feel it could be related to 3ds Max camera controller issues. I’m not sure, though
Yes it is live link from MAX, can’t use the vrscene due to anima people but for testing I tried to process a camera animation directly in Vantage without using the live link and there is no issue.
The velocity pass is fine and actually all the render elements are fine too, the bright dots are only in the final denoised beauty image - the weird thing is that if i disable “only final pass” the issue is gone at the expense of render time of course.
In the Log there is just a warning about “Sampling counter desynchronized (actual 1, expected xxx). Applying correction” and several “Unsupported translucency mode (3) for BRDF” materials.
Any idea what could be the issue?
Thanks, the desynchronized counter explains it. I think I know how to fix it (for the next update), even though I can’t verify directly. For the time being you can disable “only final pass” as a workaround.
