Reflection layer on transparency map

Hi there, I’m fairly new with V-Ray so be easy on me. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve been having issues with setting a reflection layer on a material with a transparency map.

Here is the material without the reflection layer:

Here is the material with the reflection layer:

The reflection layer seems to override the transparency map. How do I fix this?

I’m using SketchUp 8 and V-Ray for SketchUp v1.49.01.

Thanks.

Re: Reflection layer on transparency map

It appears you don’t have a reflection setting applied.

Click on the blue ‘M’ below BRDFReflection, nearest to the left
once opened pull the menu on the left down and change it to ‘Fresnel’ and if the numbers dont read something like 1.55 IOR just alter them (1.55 standard…)

(if its on ‘none’ it will act like a mirror)

also in changing the Highlight Glossiness and Reflection Glossiness this is why the ‘noise’ has been added…1=clear

good luck

Hi blitzer

This is the result I am getting:

As you can see, the reflection layer is also affecting the null area. How do I set a reflection map?

Re: Reflection layer on transparency map

to avoid the reflection on the transparency area, you have to apply the same alpha texture in the perpendicular color on the Fresnel effect, but you have to invert the alpha.

Works. Thanks a lot.

+1

Re: Reflection layer on transparency map

checking ‘use color for transparancy’ in the diffuse rollout also avoids the need for alpha maps in the reflection slots
