Reflection problem

Using SketchUp 2017 and Enscape 2.0.2.971

Sketchup file size is 13Mb

We have an elevator cab with 3 reflective walls (mirror). It seems there is almost like a reflection clipping plane occurring.

This line/plane moves as the camera moves! Funny thing is that if we step out of the elevator a few feet, the reflection looks correct.

The problem only presents itself when is at the door of the elevator or inside, as we get closer to the mirror(s) (it get’s worse)

See attached image:

Solid green lines is actual elevator cab.

Dashed green line is main reflection of cab.

Red line indicates the "plane at which the reflection stops. I repeat , this planes moves as the camera moves.

What is causing this and how can we solve?

Thanks

Hi @norbertosf

that reflection “clipping plane” you are seeing is the border between so called “screen space”-reflections and regular ray traced reflections (of a model with simplified shading). Screen space reflections give you the full detail, as they rely on the regular information that has already been calculated on screen - that’s why they’re looking better than offscreen reflection in Enscape at the moment.

I’m afraid there’s not much you can do at the moment, except using camera angles for screenshots that give you the best looking reflections. We’ll definitely try to improve reflection shading in the future, however a room built with multiple mirrors will always be a difficult challenge for rendering

Thank you
