Reflections + Alpha

Is there a way to make for example a floor that does not render but reflections and shadows do?

Ik know mental ray has this feature

thx

In the VRay properties set the object to matte on, alpha contributions as needed, tick shadows and affect alpha if desired and leave the reflection amount at 1.0

Thanks for your reply.

I figured that one out aswell but my ground plane is still visible in the alpha channel. That’s my problem.:face_with_spiral_eyes:

Then you need to set the alpha contribution to 0 (to make it do nothing to the alpha) or -1 (to block out objects behind/below the plane).

Thx. I does exactly as you say but when I save to a .png for instance the reflection is gone.

I’ll upload a sample file.

Thanks in advance

Is this something that can’t be done within the current limits of VRAY?

I’m having the same problem too. I’d love to know how to get a mat floor to render with reflections.

It’s in the png, just that PS does not show it. in a compositing prog you can invert the alpha and the add the reflection onto your background. To use PS save as a tga or something…

Sorry for the late reply. been busy:roll_eyes:

I still can’t seem to get this to work. Is is possible for you to explain step by step?

thx in advance!

try using a standard material instead of vray mat

How should that be different?

one for the wishlist
