Will this be coming in a future release? Or did I just miss it?

Ive heard that clipping planes are nothing more than an OpenGL “Trick” and fore Vray to actually render the cut it has to be actual geometry. As far as I know, its not possible with the way sketchup or rhino handles section cuts but im sure damien will come in to verify.

Yep, that is exactly the issue. There should be some way around this because its done in 3ds Max, but we’ll have to ask Vlado about it.

You could use this plugin to split the geometry to a renderable section cut. [Plugin] Zorro2 (beta) | sketchucation

This a Sketchup only plugin.

Rhino has plenty of built in tools to split the geometry, so no need for a plugin.

I ask stupid things all the time. Take a look at ARCcut. Its a VERY nifty plugin for just that and its parametric to some degree. It will not work with Vray since it uses clipping planes but it is VERY easy to split the geometry and render real quick without having to do much editing to the model. Like someone said before, you want to save as a separate file because it is not reversible.
