rendering slowing down when max is in background

I noticed that when I for example browse this forum while rendering an image, the rendering slows down a lot. Even when doing nothing in other programs, this seems to happen. From the moment max goes to the background the rendering slows down. I noticed this while rendering a simple animation. Frames took 30s, then I read some stuff on this forum, went back to see the progress and saw that lats frame took 1m. The next frame while i was watching again was only 30s. There are no big changes or something between frames that could explain the slower rendering time.

While writing this, I went back to my anim and now the last frame took 4m30s! But I don’t know if it really took that long, maybe it’s just max saying that it took this long or something.

Anyone else noticed this?

Yep, thought I was crazy but felt it better to wait for someone else to chime in.

Windows gives higher priority to foreground applications , you could mess with the cpu priority I guess, better to have two computers :slight_smile:

Actually, the flash banner sucks major CPU. It uses 70% of the pIII 933 on my laptop.

Yeah it seems to happen only when I use IE. Will test if it’s just this forum only…

(if it’s the banner, again it’s fr’s fault my renders are slow! :-))

Damn, it really is this forum that’s slowing my renders down!

Isn’t the fr offer over yet? Then it can be removed!

Damn ad, always catching my eyes and slowing down scrolling…

Maybe you could try an flash plugin update, because have 2% of cpu time for me while writing this, and max is rendering in background. Regards

I have the latest flash version installed already. Your computer may have a different processor and graphics card. The banner is still jumping between 60 and 85% here.

actually im using the skin that doesnt look as pretty and there is no flash banner here to slow me down
