Resimulation makes sim object smaller?

Hello,

I’m sure this is user error, but when I do a simple fire on a sphere (like the preset) it’s all beautiful. I go to resim and when it starts to resim, the sim is scaled down a few times in the voxel grid and in the render, and all the fire tendrils don’t seem to emerge. Am I doing something dumb here?

Thanks!
AJ

Hello,

There are currently some issues resimulating fire. You’re not doing anything wrong. We have to fix it on our side.

Thank you,

Ok, no problem! Thanks for the clarification.

Best Regards,
AJ

Hello,

I am also experiencing issues with resimulation.
The shape of the initial simulation looks okay.
Resimulation kind of reduces the grid content.

Same issue?

Hmm, not really sure if it’s the same or a different one. Would it be possible to send a version of the scene that can reproduce the issue over to Support? I think it could be an issue with the particles emitting less smoke during resimulation as well.

Yes, I just sent the file.

And here is another approach:

It actually looks satisfying. Nevertheless, I try to understand the process.

Looking good indeed  Thanks for the report, will see what’s wrong…

Is this fixed in the nightly?

I haven’t upgraded yet cause I wanted to finish the shot I started in 3.00.01 but when I try to resim just to increase resolution and add wavelet I get this:

So the smoke is disapearing instead of increasing resolution. Is it fixed in the nightly and if yes do I have to redo the base sim or can I just resim with wavelet?

By the way I see only phoenixfd 2.0 nighlties and no 3.0 ???

I asked the support to give me access

I’m afraid this is still not fixed. I will update the thread when we have a fix for this.

Ouch!

Can you tell me if you can fix it to day or will it take many days?

I think it’s a show stoper for me… :o

Hey Strob,

Please check the nightly first. Your issue does not look the same because it doesn’t involve particles. From the image I can quite understand what happens with your scene though. Are you using adaptive grid? If the nightly is still not okay, could you check what happens if you don’t use wavelet and use just interpolation? If this still doesn’t work as expected, what if you set Amplify Resolution to 0 just for the test. This would give us some clues as to what could be wrong.

Cheers!

Ok thanks

I’m waiting to get access to the nightlies of phoenix 3.

Svetlin is there a way I could PM you please?

It’s ok finally I got it sorted out by support I think

Hey, sorry I went missing, had a quite busy few days. We found a communication channel, so if I can help with anything, you can reach me there

What did the issue turn out to be?

Didn’t find the solution to the issue yet. I will try today with latest daylie to see if resimulation is working ok.

By the way when resimulating should we turn off sources and forces?

Can you tell me what changed mostly in the newest nightly? The smoke pattern seems different.

here is what I get when I resim with 3.05.01 (not using adaptive grid)
