Revit Material - Glossiness controls Reflection

I recently upgraded from Enscape 2.2.something to 2.3.3.0

As a part of this change I noticed that how glossiness and reflections work using Revit materials has changed in a rather negative way,

Glossiness now seems to pretty much entirely control the quantity of reflection, why the Reflection parameter does essentially nothing.

Thus materials with separate glossiness and reflection maps don’t function properly. This additionally results in materials with reflection turned off and glossiness set to a default value, to appear reflective.

I don’t know if this change was intentional, but its very counter intuitive and degrades material complexity.

Was hoping to get some more information in regards to this.

thanks.

I have also tried the latest prerelease build. It appears reflection still does something, its just hard to pinpoint exactly what the something is.

Hey @KMarren , thank you for your post and welcome to our forum.

Please allow me to elaborate. First off, when it comes to physically based shading, glossiness always plays the biggest roll in reflection output. We’ve made some adjustment, you should now be able to actually have more wiggle room to control reflections through the Glossiness slider in Revit than before. This means that corresponding material settings, in which the Glossiness slider has been used, would have to be briefly adjusted to achieve the same output again.

Also, “materials with separate glossiness and reflection maps don’t function properly” - these maps have never been regarded by Enscape, roughness and glossiness have always been controlled by texture instead.

In this case it would be very helpful if you could share a before/after comparison with us in which we’re able to see your material settings next to the active Enscape window. Let me know in case you’re not aware where to find our previous releases and I’ll briefly send you a link to the page accordingly. Alternatively, just go into your About window through the About button, click “Visit download area” → click on the “here” hyperlink in the third sentence “Download older versions here.”

Thank you in advance!
