Rocks

I have tried all the rock generators that I can find. They all do a great job, but they create round rocks. Other than modeling by hand, do you know of a rock generator that creates rectangle rocks? Or, a good library? I am looking to build something like this:

if you have a place where those kind of rocks can be found, id suggest using autodesk 123d catch. its good and free. probably how that sample you gave was generated.

good idea, but it’s a unique design.

poly model then copy & paste all the modifiers from a rock generator ontop of the result… or sculpt it.

Bobby,

I’m not familiar with any rock generators. Could you please share what is available.

Thanks.

Hey Bobby

Download the latest demo of Rayfire. http://rayfirestudios.com/
Has a new modifier called rayfire asperity. Asperity | RayFire Studios
Just do a basic model add asperity. Awesome rock.

That looks very cool Gavin, thanks for the link.

I’ll try it, thanks![quote=“Raven, username:Raven”]

It’s very hard to make a rock like that procedurally since there aren’t many noises / maps and so on that’d make a similar blocky / extruded look. A lot of people will make a single fragment / block of the rock and then just place those a few times at different scales and rotations to make a bigger form. I’m sure some creative polymodeling with some creative berconnoise bumps/normals/displacements would do the trick…
