Same PC with NVidia Quadro RTX4000 starting 5 times slower than with Nvidia Quadro P1000

Dear Community i am an windows System engineer in a hospital. So Revit and graphics rendering is not my speciality.
our Engineering department got New stronger PC’s HP Z Workstations , External we put an additional Graphic Card NVIDIA RTX 4000
BUT… now these machines start a revid selfextracting EXE 5 Times slower tha an older machine with a NVIDIA Quadro P1000
1 minute vs. 5 minutes!!!

(if i put the P1000 into the new machine its fast)

What I can see is that with RTX4000 the GPU hits in only at the end of all CPUS being busy for minutes while with the P1000 the GPU hits in quite early.

We tried the latest drivers and even older drivers. We looked at the card BIOS and tried to find if its a setting of the card.. BUT we have no idea..
Anyone here maybe?

Hi @Aspergillus , thanks for the report and welcome to our Forum.

Right away just to make very sure, only using an external e-GPU adapter combined with the RTX 4000 causes these lengthened “load” times? I researched this behavior myself a bit and it seems that under some circumstances using an external GPU can throttle CPU performance by quiet, which may explain this problem here at hand.

Can you perhaps also let me know the exact model of those Workstations? Just so I can look up the internal CPU/specs generally used in those machines.

The Workstation is a “HP Z2 G4 Workstation” with equipped with a NVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000

With
Quadro P1000:
Starting the App leads to CPU going to 100% and just after 5 Seconds GPU going to 100% starting to support for about 30seconds. Then 30 seconds only CPU.. then a Short Peak on the GPU and Application is ready Application ready after 1min

Quadro RTX4000
Starting the app leads to CPU going to 100% for 4minutes then the GPU the same short Peakas above before the Application is ready.

To me it looks like in the first peak the applcation is calling a function on wich the RTX400 tells the CPU.." i cant. Do it yourself"
while the P100 just does the job.
From my limited perspective looks like a driver problem but we tried all possible Drivers.

Thanks for the information - I’ll further look into this and get in touch with our developers if required. Can you also let me know through which port the e-GPU is connected (on the workstation), and have you made sure that the cable used fully supports the GPU’s bandwidth?

i think i produced a missunderstanding. its not an e-GPU not an external one. Its just an additional Graphiccard we built in. I mixed it up
its connected on a PCI Slot
HP Z2 G4 Workstation with an Intel Core i7-10700 2.90 Ghz 8-Core
NVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000 on PCIe vs. NVIDIA Quadro P1000

Last time I upgraded my GPU I had to clean the drivers out before it worked properly.

It may be there are some cached shaders or something else causing issues.

You could try using DDU :
