If you open a new SU file (which will use whatever default file you have set), and then set up the materials that you use regularly e.g. glass, chrome, etc.. Then, in VRAY, import the necessary equivalent VISMAT files e.g. chrome, glass etc. and then save the SU file back into the SU templates folder (I use the 3D-millimetre template), then next time you start a new SU model the materials are already set up. What a time saver!
If you have ‘favourite’ background and sky settings, it saves those too!
I have updated this thread, omitting the reference to SR1 (wow, that seems sooo long ago). I found it a revelation when I first did it, getting bored with having to keep linking materials all the time. Glad it helps
hey this is a good tip but i have a few questions. does this work for sketchup 7 and the new release of v-ray? i do it and material names are saved in v-ray materials but not the material properties, any solution? next is that i would like to know if there is any way of preserving materials and material settings on models that have been done in another file and imported that would be the true life saver.

Well I read what you wrote here,but I still don’t get it!I was using the trial version for v-ray,but now I have the full version for Sketchup.So,V-ray is integrated in SketchUp and I don’t know how and where to import the materials I’ve dowloaded!In the same time,some materials were dowloaded like Vismat file (which I don’t know what means…)and others are winrar files,and they contain some Mb..
Please explain me step by step how to do it!
