ScalpelMAX

I am trying to create an animation like the image above where the slice goes from left to right cutting into the solid graph - exciting stuff :] . I tried doing it a number of ways using matts, sliding matts and morph - with no success. . Does anybody know of a way to do this ? - I am thinking that the only way to create it is with scapel from Cebas ?

I’m not a big fan of Cebas has anybody used this plug in with Vray ?

Thanks as always for your help.

I have.

I liked it. Much better that using slice.

Just use a boolean, animate a box that is animated to slide over the graph and select it as the operand.

Boolean Eh ?

I hadn’t thought about that one - I’ll have to give it a shot - thanks for the fast feedback guys. I feel out the producer and see if feels like springing the plug-in it might come in handy for something else.

Thanks again - always a pleasure getting help from you guys.

Sweet

That worked like a Charm - animated Booleans ROCK !!!

Thanks again :]

Re: Sweet

can you show how it worked?

couldnt you just animate the slice modifier ? but i am glad you allready found a way to do this

Glad to help

You could but the slice modifier won’t cap the end like the boolean does.

put an edit poly modifier on top of the slice and cap it  thats what i did in my last project. but there are always several ways to accomplish a task in 3dsmax…

I’ll post results and process on Tuesday

I’ll post results and process on Tuesday when I’m back in work - long weekend here in US.

nice

The cuttting object needs to be animated prior to the boolean operation - there might be a way around this.
As another users suggested the slice and cap modifier method achieves the exact same results.

Hope this helps.

cheers for the pic, i can figure it out now

You don’t need to animate the operand first. If you choose the box as the operand then in the boolean display settings choose “Result+Hidden ops” you’ll then see the box next drill down to “operands” in the tree and you will be able to move and animate the operand as normal.

I knew there was a way to do it

I knew there had to be a way to animate after the Boolean

Thanks as always for the help.

I believe the boolean method would only work properly on simple geometry and the cebas plugin does work with more complex stuff. Dont know about the power booleans.
