Scene Convertor

The script craps out a lot.

Is this a nightly build?

Also which Corona version do you use?

No, not a nightly build. I am running the latest final release. I am not sure which Corona; I’ll check when my render is done. I do believe it is the latest, but it is a trial that has expired.

Hi,

If you want we could provide you fixed version of scene converter.
Please, let us know by writing to Vladimir Koylazov: vlado@chaosgroup.com

Anna Zaharieva

How about lights? I purchased the Universal Material converter, which is brilliant, however, it doesn’t do lights. I don’t think V-Ray’s does either. I was able to go from V-Ray to Corona in a click. You would think V-Ray would provide a way to do the opposite, no?

The V-Ray converter does work with Corona lights. If you have any problems with that, can you provide more specific details?

The thing with converters is that other renderers need just one coverter - from V-Ray to whatever. It seems like everyone expects us to provide converters from anything to V-Ray though, which is unlikely to happen. With Corona specifically we might spend a little more time on it, but generally it would be better to just get V-Ray-ready assets.

Best regards,
Vlado

That makes sense. I think Corona is the big one, for now. The Multiple Material Convertor does an awesome job converting the materials. I would love to convert my current Corona scene, which I converted from V-Ray, back to V-Ray. Corona was able to quickly let me fix some normal errors, so after fixing them I want to see if V-Ray renders faster.

I did installed the script you sent, but nothing happens when I run it. I have been using the Universal Material Converter. I wasn’t going to say anything and just wait for V-Ray 3.5 next month. However, I thought I would tell you just in case there is a problem with it that you will need to fix for the release.

Hi, is the error still present?
It would be helpful to know if something in particular is not converted as expected.
Can you provide the scene that you are trying to convert?

Best regards,
Anna Zaharieva

I have just run the vrayutils.ms script in Max2016 and nothing seems to happen. Any ideas? I’m hoping to convert some supplied Corona-textured models to VRay 3.40.01

The Universal Material Script is your friend.

Hello,
Please could you explain in more details?
You are running vrayutils.ms script via MaxScriptEditor.. or RunScript..?
After running and trying to convert using VRay scene converter is there something printed in MaxScript listener?

Best regards,
Anna

Mine seems to run and the script listener says done, but it is literally a split second and nothing actually gets done.

Hi,
Something seems wrong as when the script is evaluated all the instances should be printed in the listener (check the screenshot). Can you just replace the script in the 3ds Max folder (e.g. “C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2017\scripts\Startup\vrayutils.ms”) and then restart 3ds Max. Then the script should be updated and you could try again.

The updated script is also in the stable nightly builds 3.50.02 since we’ve posted it here, so you can try obtaining it this way too.

Best regards,
Alexander

You said that you posted it here. Did you forget to post it or am I missing something?

I’ve sent it to you by e-mail the subject was “scene converter.”. I can resend it if you will, but it’s already in the nightly builds.

Best regards,
Alexander

I didn’t realise I had to have Corona installed, which I have now done.

Yes, that’s the one I used. I have since removed V-Ray and installed the Beta 2, which I am assuming also has the new one.[quote=“bsweeney, post:4, topic:53850, username:bsweeney”]

Yes, the beta 2 has the fix too.
