I’ve tried searching but couldn’t find anything. Is there any way to tell Corona’s Intel denoiser to use the integrated GPU instead of the main GPU? Or to force it to use CPU only even with a capable GPU present? I’ve tried OIDN environment variables but I guess Corona’s implementation ignores them. Thankful for any info.
Right. Ok. Guess there’s no option for OpenCL or actual device selection. No matter, it should be fine on CPU only. Thank you!
It does continue to put load on the GPU even when set to CPU. Interesting…
Are we talking about interactive or production rendering here? OIDN can only use the GPU when used for interactive rendering.
P.S. Hi Vlad! ![]()
Hey Marcin ![]()
This is just for interactive, where it runs continuously.
It’s using the main GPU which is stupid (the main GPU, that is) and ramps up the fans to full tilt under almost any kind of slightly continuous load so is noisy AF. I wanted to see if I can avoid the noise by having the denoiser use either strictly the CPU only or the integrated graphics (which are AMD) but whereas there’s obviously no support for telling it which exact GPU to use in the system, I’m fine with only CPU. However, changing the option in devel/debug options from Auto or GPU to CPU does not do anything. Still 50%+ load of the main GPU as soon as the denoiser kicks in and I’ve checked, it’s the Intel denoiser. The Nvidia denoiser doesn’t cause heavy GPU usage but as we all know, the Nvidia denoiser sucks in comparison to the Intel one…
I can make a short video demonstrating this (though it’s likely to magically start working properly as soon as I hit record. Computers like to embarrass me like that…) if needed.
Oh, and where are my manners?
Win 11 24h2, Max 2024, Corona 14
All of this is currently expected. For interactive rendering, only the GPU can be used when using the Intel denoiser. So there is no way to use the CPU. And the only supported GPU type is NVIDIA, so there is no way to use an AMD/integrated GPU.
Switching between the CPU/GPU backend in devel/experimental only affects denoising in production rendering.
