serv pk 2 error on max 2008

V-Ray V-Ray for 3ds Max Issues

I downloaded the serv pack 2 for max 2008 for the 64 bit version, ran the install and it siad that it needed to uninstall the old serv pk first. it did this but then gave me a message saying that not all of the vray was uninstalled and some needed to be unistalled manually. it finished. I statrted max 2008 and it gives me this error.

“DLL<C:\Program Files\Autodesk|3ds Max 2008|Plugins|vray plugins|vray
> symbiont 90.dlt> failed to initialize error code:14001- the
> application has failed to start because it’s side-by-side
> configuration is incorrect. Please see application log.”

I ran the install twice now and no change and i have no idea what to manually remove. Any suggestions?

You will need to install the Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables for 64-bits; see this post for more details:

i deleted vraysymbiont.dlt which solved the error message. Now i have installed the microsoft visual c++ stuff. Did i make a mistake deleting the vraysymbiont file?

Well, if you don’t need it, I suppose it is fine. You can always reinstall V-Ray if you need it later on.

heh…i don’t even know what it is or what it does so i guess i would never know if i needed it or not.

It is probably for the new VRaySimbionMtl material, which uses these procedural textures:

Exactly !

What is better to do is just rename the file, like adding <.off> as a new extension.
So if one day you install the DarkTree shaders, you can start using the VRaySimbion material
for it.
