This is no supprise to me, i thought they were gone a while back. I used to use them in school about 6 or 7 years ago and my computer back then at home was out performing the school SGI and all i had was a p3 450 with 128mb ram
yeah same for me, now with dual dual cores and quad cores coming, sgi is out for good. But I hear its just a restructuring and its just in usa, other offices in the world are ok for now …
Well - a chapter 11 can serve as a reogranization of financial structure. Just because a company files chapter 11, it doesn’t mean they’re going out of business. Take General Motors for instance.
But, it doesn’t look good one bit…
that doesnt look good…
Yeah - As Morbid said they’re pretty much ‘kaput.’
It was bad management to not recognize consumer level hardware catching up to their proprietary equipment - then to not try to address the situation.
AME prolly nailed them the last one in the coffin, switching inferno/flame onto linux Athlon64 boxes with an nvidia Video card.
That tezro glowed nicely in the dark, though.
It’s was the soul of the company commercial director trapped inside that did that.
Try with an athlon, see if it works just the same ![]()

Its not hard to see why they are in trouble, a local dealer here just started carying some of the SGI line here and there are 4 models starting at $17,000cdn to $42,000cdn  even if I had millions to spend I would still go for Opterons rather than these SGI boxes.
