The lighting and shadows in my preview look great, but then my rendered output has what seem like several errors with the lighting and shadows. You can see in the attached images. Image 1 is the preview, which has a smooth shadow down the face of the exterior concrete wall, and image 2 (rendered output) where the wall shadow seems to get doubled-up, and then at the interior space where sunlight randomly appears on the interior wall. Any advice on how to fix these issues would be much appreciated.
Hey @BGP and thank you for your report. Can you share more details about your hardware setup and Enscape settings? Do you have ray-traced sun shadows enabled?
Thanks! Then it appears to be a problem with our shadow mapping implementation in that case. Sometimes there can be issues when the extends of the project are very large. Based on the screenshots it appears this could be the case here as well. Not sure which CAD you’re using, but could you try to reduce the extends of the environment mesh (and any far away assets that are placed on it), to reduce the scene’s bounding box? In Revit a section box that is closer around the building would suffice.
Alternatively you can try to enabled ray-traced sun shadows. This feature might consume a lot of VRAM though, which could become a problem with the 8GB your GPU has. Make sure to set the wind strength to 0 before, as the animated trees consume a lot of memory.
If you’d be able to share the project with us for investigation that’d be highly appreciated. Please contact @Demian_Gutberlet to arrange the transfer of the file(s).
That was the problem! There was a little bit of stray model geometry way off in the distance, which made the extents of my model extraordinarily large. I deleted it, and now my shadows and sunlight are rendering beautifully.
Problem solved, thanks again!
