Shadow has jagged edges

After hearing so many good things about this software from various sources, I finally jumped in and am trying out Enscape for Sketchup. I am very impressed with the ease of use and the instantaneous results.

The specific question I have is how to deal with a shadow cast by a curved lamp shade close to the ceiling surface. I found I can reduce the problem by lowering the light intensity, but when the light is predominant, the edges of the shadow are very jagged. Are there any settings I’m missing. I’m using “ultra” settings, and I have a pair of GTX 1070s in my workstation.

Thanks,

Andy

Thanks for testing Enscape!

The quality and performance of artificial lights is something that will be improved soon. In the meantime, you can use an IES profile to hide that a bit or use a hemispherical light if you only need to have it pointing downwards.

Cool, thanks for the suggestion. An IES profile might work in this case with the direct/indirect lighting. Glad to hear improvements are coming.

I have got round this in the past by having two spots facing up and down; the one up much less intense than the one down. (max beam angle of 90º)

Ah, that makes sense… control the shape of the light by the type of light instead of the geometry. Thanks!
