Shutter efficieny for motion blur

Hi there,

Is there a way to adjust the efficiency of the shutter to get more realistic motion blur? It looks like light is passing uniformly in time which doesn’t match what happens for physical shutters as they take time to open and close.

Cheers, Jeremy

There is some control over this with the motion blur bias, although it is not exactly the same (it just allows you to bias the blur towards the start or end of a frame).

Vlado

Hi Vlado,
Yes I saw that though not exactly what I am after. There is a great overview I found here,
http://www.dctsystems.co.uk/Text/ShutterPresentation.pdf

Could it be added to the wishlist? I think it would make a big difference for VFX users
Cheers, Jeremy

Yes, I will add it of course. Not really sure it will make that much of a difference though.

Best regards,
Vlado

It’s subtle but can make the difference when something that has heavy motion blur looks “not quite right”. Thanks Vlado.
BTW, it’s great to finally be using V-Ray in production

Cheers, Jeremy

in production and in quite a big ones !

Hehe good to hear it

Vlado

Hi Vlado.
Can I send you an email ?
thanks.

You don’t need to ask permission for that  My email is vlado@chaosgroup.com

Matching Film motion blur with Vray I have found a 180 maya camera shutter with Vray motion blur settings with a Duration of .5 and interval center at 0 matches quite well. Vlado, I think those should be the default settings. :stuck_out_tongue:
