Hi, I am not new to Enscape or Sketchup. I have been having problems with SketchUp crashing immediately after using Enscape assets to place light beams. It’s weird because if I am in Enscape it does not crash if i place entourages or people. But immediately after placing the light beams the program crashes. My laptop that I am using is a windows computer. I have my driver updated and I checked to make sure my computer can support the program, which it can. I tried to do this on the computers available at school and I had the same problem. I am using a student license.
This project has two floors and I even tried separating the two floors into two separate files so that there were less components involved. Still, I’m having the same problem in both files.
In the past I have run bigger projects on SketchUp and used Enscape with it just fine, so I am confused why this is happening now.
I submitted a feedback help ticket with logs to Enscape too.
If there’s any tips or tricks that I can use to work around this please let me know!
Thank you in advance.
Hi @JordanRaeside , welcome to our Forum and thank you for your submitting a report to our support team right away.
I’m rather confident you’ve seen our response already, but just to make sure I’ll copy it here once more for anyone else to see as well:
"This is a bug our developers are aware of and have pinpointed as the result of Sketchup’s API overwriting the geometry of our lighting options. Unfortunately, because this is Sketchup’s native code, there isn’t anything our developers can do on our side other than collect case data and hopefully add weight to our existing case with Sketchup’s team until this is resolved very soon.
In the meantime, I recommend that if you encounter a Sketchup Bug Splat after this occurs, go ahead and submit it to Trimble with what you’ve described above along with that you’ve reached out to us about this.
As a potential workaround, please only place lights in nested groups or components and not directly in the Sketchup view port. If the light object is placed inside an existing object, it is more likely to avoid conflicts.
I apologize that there isn’t anything else we can offer as a workaround - our hands are tied when it comes to the coding of Sketchup, as we’re only a plugin. I hope that you can feel assured that we’re doing everything we can to get this fixed!"
Hopefully the provided workaround will help here, otherwise in case you may experience any other problems what so ever feel free to reach back out to our support team as well.
USING THE CLASSIC GRAPHIC ENGINE WORKS FOR ME; NO CRASHING, ADDING ENSCAPE OBJET LIGHT INSIDE OR OUTSIDE OF A COMPONENT OR GROUP,
Hi,
I have SketchUp 2024 and as discussed above, I also have an issue when placing lighting fixtures. Just wanted to ask whether the issue is being resolved?
Thank you, Magda
Hi Magda and thank you for the report. As this behavior should be resolved at this point especially if you are using (one of our) latest releases of Enscape which can always be found here, please make sure to also forward this issue via a dedicated support report as detailed here so that we can troubleshoot the exact cause behind any crashing or other issues you experience.
Thank you in advance.
