I’m having performance issues working in Sketchup when V-Ray is open. Especially, when switching scene tabs. It’s taking several minutes to switch between tabs. When V-Ray is not open, I can change tabs almost instantaneously. I performed a batch render on a model with 11 scenes. It took all day. The render times were normal. The issue was the time it took for the scenes to change. Performance in general is not good with V-Ray open, constant hanging and crashes and the inability to close Sketchup. I’ve tested several models, all with the same issues. I have Enscape and D5 installed as well. I do not experience the same issues with these programs open.

Hello, @jkollars66 .
I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing such issues.
On my side switching scene tabs takes the same time no matter if V-Ray is activated or not.
I performed a batch render on a model with 11 scenes. It took all day. The render times were normal. The issue was the time it took for the scenes to change. - Note that in the beginning of the Batch rendering, all the scenes are exported first, which takes some time (especially in the heavy scenes) before the actual rendering. Could you send us an example scene where the Batch render takes too long, so we can try to improve this behavior?
Performance in general is not good with V-Ray open, constant hanging and crashes and the inability to close Sketchup. I’ve tested several models, all with the same issues. - Could you please send us such scene, where the issues appear? (First pack your project from V-Ray>Pack Project… and then send it through our support portal (https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new) with the link from this forum topic in the message.) This way we can try to reproduce them on our end and further fix or improve them.
Regards,
Ivelina
I’ve uploaded the file per your request.
Hi, @jeff_kollars !
Thank you for sending a scene! Unfortunately, we can not reproduce such slow scene tabs switching or such very slow Batch rendering on our side.
We experienced some issues with starting or stopping renders in your scene which causes SketchUp 2024 to hang or freeze. I logged a ticket in our internal system (SK-5646) so our developers can further investigate this behavior.
We will inform you as soon as there are some news.
Kind regards,
Ivelina
Hello jkollars66.
It turned out the hangs and freezes in your scene, when switching between the scene tabs, were caused by the old “Scatter Viewport Preview” overlay in V-Ray 7.20.02.
Since V-Ray 7.40.00 our developers made some performance and stability changes in the new “V-Ray Preview” overlay, where the Scatter preview is included.
Note that all V-Ray Object Previews are enabled by default, when the main “V-Ray Preview” overlay is enabled. For a better performance we added Preview Overlay options that can be disabled separately for the Fur, Scatter, IES Lights, and Gaussian Splats.
Regards,
Ivelina
