Slow Performance of the Webtours / Missing Photos

In the last few days, several users in my company have complained about their virtual tour performances becoming extremely slow. Myself and other users have also noticed that Around 30% of the time, when we click on hotspots, it brings us to the hotspot image, but it doesn’t actually load the image. In addition to this, images used for planned views also allowed extremely slowly To the point where we have to literally sit and wait and watch the image load on the screen before the whole thing loads. These issues are happening in a variety of different network conditions. Bumps at our office, which has gigabyte Ethernet speeds, which should be more than enough to stream these and in the home environment which have slower speeds. it doesn’t seem to matter the speed of our internet. Is there an issue with the server, or are there? Is there maintenance going on that is causing a slowdown?

Thanks for the report. We are observing slow streaming of image files and are still investigating the cause. In the meantime, we allocated extra resources that should alleviate the issue until we find a scalable solution.

As general advice, specifically for virtual tours, the resolution of images is high, and the size of image files should be balanced, even if we can stream them at maximum speed.

Are you suggesting we downscale the resolution of the panorama images? I don’t think I mentioned it but the tours we were experiencing slowness with were a mix of 360 photos and 360 renders directly from Enscape.

No, I am not suggesting that in relation to the network issue that we are experiencing. Just in general that loading 8K / 100+MB panoramas can be challenging for the client in terms of time and resources.

@dpadmin_jlgarchitects Hey! I believe Martin is referring to the resolution at which you are rendering panoramas in enscape. The high resolution setting can produce very large images especially if you render stereo panoramas. The general slow down is being investigated in the meantime and may be unrelated to this at the moment.

@martin_dimitrov ov, @vasil_garbev Thanks for the clarification and looking into the slowdown

Chiming in as well, as we began to test the virtual tours for an upcoming project.

The features are incredibly great and we were so excited, but the streaming performance is a huge concern, as loading images randomly takes a huge amount of time for very small file sizes (like 12mb monoscopic panos in jpg that take 30 seconds to load, sometimes slow upload speeds as well and even an attachment for a highlight taking seconds to load for a 12Kb jpg!). Of course, tested with different browsers, firefox and chromium based, with or without any extensions.

Any insights of what could possibly be causing theses slow speeds? (we’re in France, with lightning fast speeds in both ways)

EDIT: I’ve just made an attempt in a private window in edge for a 3 images panorama, after deleting the whole browser cache. The loading times are very random. Sometimes it hangs on an image for a very long time (refreshed after 1 minute of waiting after clicking on a hotspot), sometimes the whole things appears to load instantly. When opening the link for a particular image, it seems to load instantly, the switching seems to be the culprit (hotspot or thumbnail). Could it be a code problem rather than a purely streaming problem?
EDIT2: nevermind, the loading times are just random, even with a direct link to a particular image  Also, clicking on any button changing the image (hotspot or thumb), every hotspot disappears and there is no feedback at all, not even a loading message, which can be very troubling for a client.

@labulle Thank you for the detailed information!

We are again looking into this. The issue appeared to be resolved, but apparently it is back. We suspect it may be something to do with our Cloud Provider. Will keep you updated!

Thanks for reporting this. From our investigation, we found that only one instance of the service behind the load balancer was behaving inconsistently and randomly. When an image request was served from this instance, the streaming performance was affected. This instance is now recovered, and we are investigating what was causing this behaviour. Currently, I am no longer observing this issue.

Thank you very much for your swift and extensive answer! I can confirm from my testing that everything is lightning fast to load now! Love the virtual tour feature, as that was a serious hassle in the past with lackluster and very sparse third party solutions, and can’t wait to try it out directly from Vray 7.

On a sidenote, we really appreciate your dedication and customer support, it’s an incredible peace of mind to know that we can rely on Chaos when facing issues and potentially extremely stressful moments with our projects and clients!
